I was walking down the hall with my best friend Charlotte.

"But just think, Genevieve," she said. "in 5 weeks, your dad is going to teach you how to drive. That is awesome! My mom makes me wait until I'm 16."

"Yeah, but I have to wait until the second I turn 14. At that's at 6pm."

The bell was about to ring for 2nd period when I was supposed to go to the office for dismissal.

"What? It's only the beginning of the day. Almost." I said, getting my things from my locker.

Charlotte shrugged. I walked to the office and saw Tasha. I got signed out and followed her to the car.

"Where are we going?" I asked when we got to the parking lot.

"Your father had a heart attack, so I'm taking you guys to the hospital."

"Oh, ok."

I bit my lip and climbed into the car next to Chase. I was immediately squashed in the tiny white Honda. It was burning hot outside, so imagine being crammed in the car with 3 brothers and a sister.

"Bree's poking my with her rib!" Leo complained.

"It's called BREATHING!' she said.

I rolled my eyes and rolled my window down. Adam moved in his seat, which caused Chase to move, and that caused my head to be leaning on the window.

"Scoot over, Gene!" Chase said.

"I'll fall out of the car if I do!"

"So, jump on top of the car and lay down!"

"No! Wait. No! But that sounds REALLY fun."

Adam groaned and said "It would be more fun if Bree's shoulder wasn't digging into mine!"

Silence. Okay, that was awkward. The rest of the ride to the hospital was filled with complaints and shut ups. After a while, I complained less, then stopped complaining. I was... worried, if you will. We got out of the car and I was literally pushed out. There are two car doors, people! As soon as we found out what room he was in, we headed to that section. As soon as we go in, all you heard was a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP and the sound of crying, and feet shuffling. Okay, now I was really nervous.

"Whoa, major cuss alert." Adam said. I slapped his face. He gave me a what-the-heck-was-that-for? face. My stomach started to feel weird, so I excused myself to the bathroom. I burst through the door and I thought I would throw up, but instead I splashed my face with cold water. I looked at my reflection in the mirror: my always super curly blonde hair was to my shoulders, and my ice-cold blue eyes looked brighter then usual. I took a deep breath in, then turned around. I whipped my head to see a familiar flash of brown hair heading toward a stall. It looked, and I heard sobbing. Could it be Bree? I didn't want to ask and it not be her, because it would be weird. I looked down to see my yellow sandal came unbuckled, so, I (duh!) buckled it again. I walked out of the bathroom. When I walked to my right, I saw Chase staring out a window in the hall. I walked over and stood next to him.

"So," I said.

"So," he said.

"Are you okay? You look paler then usual."

"Yeah, well, I guess I'm fine."

"Oh. So, what's happening? Why aren't you in there?"

"The doctor wanted to talk to Tasha alone, so I'm out here."

"Well, what about the other three?"

"Adam and Leo went to the vending machine, and Bree is... Somewhere. She sort of walked away."

"Oh. That doesn't sound like Bree. I expected she would've stayed here."

"I think that's what everyone was excepting."

"What's gonna happen? I mean, I know we've been here for like, ten minutes, but I thought someone was going to tell us something."

"Agreed. But all we can do is sit-or stand- around all day and wait. For hours."

"Wait? I can't wait. He's our dad, and you would think Tasha would want us more involved."

"Genevieve, I know you and Tasha never got along but, try to get along, please?"

"Okay, I'll try."

SplHe smiled and gave me a side hug. I just leaned in, letting him know I love him too. Bree came walking back, you could tell she's been crying.

"Where were you?" I asked. She just shrugged. I looked over at Chase, he was staring out the window.

"I'm bored." I complained.

"Who isn't. All we get to do is wait to see what's happening to our dad." Bree said.

"Guys, we are teenagers who have phones. And one of us are considered popular." Chase said, looking at me. I just shrugged.

"It's 2nd period, which means gym for most of my friends. And at our school, gym is the best!" I said. Bree laughed.

"Could it be that your more fit then all of us combined?" She asked.

We joked around and talked for 10 more minutes, when Tasha came back, teary eyed.

"No visitors for 3 weeks. That's when he'll come home." She said, then walked away.

"I take it we're leaving now." I mumbled. Bree stifled a laugh and Chase just shook his head at me. Adam and Leo caught up with us, apparently they got lost and didn't want to call in case we were in the room. We were finally walking down the side walk to the parking garage. I looked to my left and there was beautiful grass, a couple of benches, kiosks, and a HUGE fountain. In front of a hospital, really? We all were shoved back into the car. This time, I sat in the seat but put my legs across everybody else's lap. I pushed my back against the wall, and there was more room for everybody. The windows were either rolled down all the way, or half way down. So many songs came in that we hated, Tasha just turned the radio off.

"100 cartons of milk on the wall..." Tasha began, but we didn't respond. She ended up singing the whole song, we ended up buying 5 jugs of milk. Good lord, this lady. When we got home, she even forced us to drink at least 2 cups of milk.

"We get it! Milk is good for you!" I whispered into Bree's ear. She burst out laughing.

"You laugh easily." Leo said.

"You should've seen her at the carnival a couple years ago! There was this kid-" Adam began, but I cut him off by putting my hand over his mouth. We do not need to hear this story. It was around three when Charlotte called. I took my phone to my room and answered.

"Hello?"

"Genevieve it's Char are you ok?"

"Nope. I died."

"Shut up! What happened?"

"My, uh, I, uh..." Come one Gene, think!

"Your, uh, what?"

"Dad had a heart attack."

"Omigosh!!!! What can I do?"

"Calm down! Don't do anything just... Breath."

I headed her exhale. We talked for another hour, then we hung up. It was late, so I put my pajamas on and did all that bed stuff. I climbed in the bed and pulled my warm covers over my body.
