Part 3: changes, confessions, and goodbyes

Cloud started to become cold and emotionless. The only one he had emotions towards was Tifa. Unlike the rest of the towns people, she didn't see him as an outcast and she cared for him. Even Tifa's father treated cloud badly after the death of his wife. When Tifa was gone, her dad would abuse cloud physically, mentally, and emotionally. Tifa would come home and see bruises on cloud and sometimes black eyes or his nose is broken. She would always ask him what happened and cloud would just say that he got into a fight with some punk who was pushing him around. When Tifa turned 12 she thought that she could talk to her mother if she visited the exposed part of the life stream on the other side of Mt. Nibel. Cloud tried to talk her out of it but she was hell bent on it. "Fine, ill go with you then." Cloud said with hesitance. Tifa was overjoyed with this. No one knew, but she had feelings for Cloud since she was 11. This also gave her the perfect opportunity to tell him exactly how she felt. They departed the next day to cross the mountain. To be honest, i was scared YOU wouldn't share the same feelings..." She stared into his bright blue eyes and then leaned forward and kissed him. After a few seconds, Cloud broke the kiss. "We need to keep the fact that we are together a secret. I don't want you to be targeted by others because of me." "I don't care about that. I love you and whether others support that doesn't matter and I don't care what they think about me." "I care what they think about you. They kissed again and continued on their journey. The two of the had almost made it to the top when Tifa took a misstep and slipped. Cloud reached out to grab her but he to slipped and fell. They landed on a slope 15 feet below and slide to the bottom. Cloud came out just fine but Tifa was in grave danger. She landed on a rock and cut her side open. Cloud picked Tifa up and carried her back to town and got her to a doctor. Luckily, he got her there in time and her life was saved. The townspeople blamed Cloud for the mishappening, saying that it was his idea to go up the mountain, even though Tifa denied all of the accusations. Cloud started blaming himself for the incident and came to hate himself. When he turned 17, he decided to join soldier. He called Tifa to the mako reactor to tell her what he planned to do, hoping to impress her. When he told her, she only had one thing to say. "Whenever i'm in trouble, promise me that you will be there to save me." "I promise. No matter what, I will protect you." She smiled and kissed him passionately. "I love you, Cloud." "I love you too, Tifa." They walked back to town where he found his now grown up chocobo, Thunder, and grabbed his sword. The three of them walked to the edge of town. They reached the edge and Tifa turned towards Cloud with her head down, tears welling up in her eyes "Please be safe and come back to me one day." "I will, don't worry." he said lifting her chin. "I love you more than anything, Tifa." "I love you more." They both chuckled and kissed passionately. They held the kiss for a while, twirling their tongues around in each others mouths. They broke the kiss and embraced, knowing they may not see each other for a long time. Cloud left the embrace and started walking off, headed to Midgar with Thunder following closely behind. Tifa stood there, watching until Cloud disappeared into the horizon. She was already missing him and awaiting the day that the love of her life returns.
