(Y/N) and Itsumi hastily made their way to the gym. There was no way that they would pass up any time that allowed Ayako and them to hang out during school.
"Hey, what was that argument you were having with the new boy about?" Itsumi slowed her pace down a bit and looked at (Y/N) with round, puppy-dog eyes.
"Oh, Reiji? That was nothing, just a difference of opinions." (Y/N) walked into the gym quickly, clearly trying to stay off the topic of the infuriating boy.
"Really? You guys made it look pretty heated." Itsumi replied with a hint of playfulness on her features.
"Yeah. It's not a big deal. I just hate when people are stuck up like that, you know?" (Y/N) ranted to her friend, already getting heated at the thought of the pretentious blonde she would have to deal with in already stressful class.
"Whatever you say," Itsumi shrugged, not really believing her friend's words, "and there's Ayako."
The two made their way over to the ecstatic blue-haired girl, who apparently couldn't stop smiling nor waving at them. When the two were finally close enough, Ayako immediately dove into a conversation.
"Guys! We finally have a class together! This is now my favorite class; I'm so happy." Ayako exclaimed with a large mix of emotions, but mostly excitement, as she practically danced around in circles.
"Uh, I don't know if I would call running much fun, but I guess you're right." (Y/N) looked unsurely at the energetic girl, though still happy with the fact that she was around her friends.
"What do you mean? There is nothing wrong with running. It's the time that we spend together that counts." Ayako said seriously, eerily staring at her two friends.
"It's just a bit hard to talk while running, you know?" Itsumi chimed in, trying to sway Ayako's opinion without letting her know that running was not as universally loved as the blue-haired girl might have hoped.
"That's hardly a reason." Ayako shook her head, still denying the obvious.
Ayako's eyes then suddenly cleaned with happiness.
"I almost forgot, I have a class with Yukio! I even got to talk to him!" Ayako's excitement was somehow even greater than before as she could hardly contain herself.
Itsumi also became elated.
"Really?! Me too!"
(Y/N) could only roll her eyes, asking herself how on Earth her friends could even bring themselves to care about that flirt.
The late bell rang, and everyone was dismissed to the locker rooms.
The teacher who presided over the girls' locker room was a muscular and toned woman, who only seemed to be in her mid-thirties. One could even wonder why someone who was actually fit would even teach a gym class. (Y/N) remembered her name to be Mrs. Nakatsu, and from what she had heard, a nice lady.
The teacher took about five minutes to explain the rules and gave everyone a sheet that had to be signed in order to play any sports. She then said that for today, they'd just be reviewing warm-ups. Most of the girls groaned quietly or rolled their eyes.
(Y/N) really didn't care for the most part, and she was mostly just concerned about the minimum amount of effort required for a good grade because that was about all she was planning on giving. She was, however, surprised that they were exercising so soon. Couldn't they just wait a few days, maybe weeks?
Everyone was quickly shuffled out of the gym and outside, where the warmups were usually conducted. The three gym teachers kept the girls and boys separate and gave their instructions. Run four laps on the track around the tennis courts, then walk over to the basketball court. The girls were told to run first, and (Y/N) could already see some girls trying to walk ahead as if the couple of feet they gained by walking would make it any easier.
