Today is the day. The day I'd finally marry my one and only. The love of my life. My everything. He means so much to me. He's my happiness. He's my sunshine. And I finally get to live the rest of my life with him. Today is the day.
I smile at myself in the mirror and try to ignore the squeals that are scattered around the room.
"I can't believe it!" One of them blurt out.
"Me neither." Another one agrees.
I can't help but smile like an idiot at their happiness for me. My eyes snap up from my admiration of the elegant, white dress to the door. My mother stares at me with her hands covering her mouth. "Darling, you look beautiful!" She says, her voice full of joy as she walks towards me to give me a hug.
"Mom, you made it!" I exclaim in her ear with tears forming in my eyes.
"Yes, I wouldn't miss it for the world." She says and I smile bigger, if that is even possible. "Oh honey, don't cry," she tells me and turns me around to face the mirror. "Today is your day." She smiles at me. I place my hand on hers and give it a light squeeze.
"Five minutes!" A guy yells from behind the door.
The bridesmaids all scamper to their feet and exchange hugs with me before leaving the room to myself. I Take a deep breath as I hear the soft piano music play in the room just next door.
When I get outside my father is already waiting for me to take my arm in his. My heart is beating rapidly in my chest and I wonder if my father can feel it because I surely think he can. As we walk down the aisle in the rhythm of the song everyone's eyes are on us, but my attention is settled on the perfect man standing right before me. When I reach the alter, my dad let's go of my arm and goes off to stand next to the best man. I interlock our fingers as the music stops. His eyes rake up and down my body. "You look beautiful." he whispers to me and I nod before the preacher starts.
"We are gathered here today, on this happy and joyous occasion, to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony." The preachers says and goes on, but I cannot focus on a single word when my interest is lost in his eyes and his flawless features. He's all I want and I know he feels the same.
"Groom, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health, remaining faithful to her as long as you both shall live?" The preacher finally asks.
"I do," he says with his eyes fixed on me.
"And bride, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health, remaining faithful to him as long as you both shall live?"
"I do." I said confidently, but I've waited far too long for the simple yet life-changing kiss.
"You may now, kiss the bri-" the preacher was cut off by a loud bang, followed by multiple screams.
suddenly, everything fell silent. Everything slowed into an excruciating pace, except for my heart. It pumped violently in my chest, as his body fell to the floor. Everybody was running, trying to find their way to the easiest exit they could find, but I fell to my knees and crawled over to him, placing my hand to his chest. "Zayn!" I yelled, my voice ripped through my throat, but that didn't stop me from yelling again. "Zayn!" I yelled again. It was not until I grabbed his hand when I realized he was still breathing, barely, but still breathing.
"Nicole," he called but it came out a whisper instead.
"Yeah," I said, choking on my words with tears racing along my cheeks.
"I- I love you." he struggles to say.
"I love you, too, Zayn."
When his mouth fell slightly open and his eyes slowly started to close I began yelling out his name again in hopes of bringing him back, but he never doesn't. For a moment I forgot about everybody until my mom pulled me along to her side and drags me further and further away from Zayn.
"No- no mom, we can't leave him." I tell her.
"I'm so sorry, sweety." Her voice full of sorrow.
I try to fight against her and run back to Zayn, but she doesn't let me. "Mom please, we can't leave him!" I yell.
"I'm so sorry, darling."
No, no we can't leave him. Before my eyes could land on his perfect body, the doors were closed and sealed by the police tape. And just like that, my sunshine was ripped out of my sky.
