Recap of the last chapter:

“Baby,” Alek cooed into the receiver.

“Have I ever let you down? Everything is running smoothly.” He let out an evil laugh at something the person on the other end of the receiver said and I felt myself shiver from how sinister he sounded.

“Patience, Sweetheart. I promise you, when we have all the intel we need we will bring them to their knees. I was also thinking that we could get some money out of it and have a nice mansion in Hawaii.” He laughed again, leaving me reeling as to what they were talking about or more like whom?

I hear rustling of clothes and Alek nearing the closet door his voice getting louder and clearer with each step. My breath gets caught in my throat as I see the shadow of his feet through the crack at the bottom.

“Listen I have to go now. The banquet isn’t over yet but I will call you again when it is.” I hear the click as he hangs up. His hand was on the door handle. I hear the turning of it and I know I’m going to be busted. I feel every part of my body sweating and the fabric of the dress is clinging to me like a second skin and I hope I haven’t blown the mission….

Chapter Eleven: Common 'Curtsys' like common courtesy but curtsy (Just incase you didn't get it)

I hold my breath as I hear the shifting click of the door handle, my knuckles turning white from how hard I was gripping the fabric of my dress. My lungs were burning and screaming for air but I ignore it, thinking Alek could hear the faintest sound.

All of the sudden, there is a indistinct metallic sound as Alex releases his grip on the door handle and begins retreating away from the wardrobe, his heavy footsteps scuffing the floorboards. I let out the breath I’ve been holding in when I hear the butler tell him the fireworks are about to start.

Shit, shit, shit!  Ryder’s going to kill me. I listen till Alek’s footsteps grow distant and I can no longer hear them at all but even then I’m extra cautious and count to sixty before I get out. It’s funny how when you’re freaking out sixty seconds can seem like an hour.

Lightly tiptoeing over to the hidden panel on the wall, I make sure to tune my ears into any sound, no matter how small just in case Alek decides to make another surprise visit. Once I reach the grey safe, I study it carefully.

It was about the size of a microwave with your typical numbered keypad. How am I meant to open this?  I was just about to turn away and close the panelling when I catch sight of a small white tag sticking out from underneath the safe.

Slowly, I slip it out from its hiding place. As soon as I lay my eyes on the quick scribble on the paper, they widen, bulging out of their sockets. I can’t believe my luck. He actually wrote the passcode down and hid it underneath the damn thing?! What kind of villain was this guy? Amateur.

I quickly type the code in and the door swings open. Peering inside the metal box curiously, I see placed neatly in a corner a stack of files, rounding to about twenty. I gingerly leaf through the files, stopping every now and then to study them more carefully. Each file contains information on a certain individual, none of whom I know.

I flick through another one and my eyes instantly land on a younger Chases’ face. Below the picture of his face are paragraphs of information on his background including the missions he’s been on, his occupational position, partner, and his friends: Kate Knight, Benjamin Knight, and Jack Daniels. Mum, dad and Ryder’s uncle.
