I sit in my room, my bed felling oddly stiff; more than normal. I shift my position to grab the notebook on my nightstand. Then I grab my pencil off the floor by my bed, something very important in my head that was in need of removal. I open the notebook to the next blank page and start to write.
Dear Lisa,
I have been meaning to tell you this for a while now. I feel like I'm not in the right skin. I feel like a boy. Even though I'm female. I've been so confused for so long but now I've found a label that describes me. I'm trans*. This is probably really awkward to you because you've known me for so long and have seen me wearing dresses and looking okay with it. I'm not. I haven't been since I was young. So now, I have decided to tell you. I will tell everyone else at some point but it'll be hard. Please, if you can, call me by Alexander or Alex or Alec. Thank you ^-^!

I fold the letter into fourths, making sure the creases are firm and set. I then go out and see a staff who's working. I saw Ashley, one of the nicest staff there, and called to her.
"What up?" She said, smiling at me.
"I need this to be delivered to Lisa's office. It's important..." I said in a shaky voice.
"Can I read it? You can say no if you want, I'm just curious abo-"
"Yeah..." When I said this, she carefully unfolded the paper and started to read. It was nerve racking, seeing something I've hidden from SO many people being read. When tears flooded to her eyes I automatically thought she hated me when all of a sudden, she hugged me.
"I'm so proud of you!! Should I start calling you this too?"
"No... not yet, only because of the fact that you are the only one who knows. If you want to when it's just me and you around, that is fine, but not in the milieu." I smiled into her shoulder, relief spreading through me.
"Okay, I'll bring this upstairs to her office!" She said excitingly, and with that, I laid on my bed and let a few tears drip down my face. Happy tears, not sad, where all I could do is smile. And that's just what I did. Smiled like an idiot for at least ten minutes. Ashley came back down the stairs and gave me two thumbs up and saying "oh the drawings that will come," and going back to the staff area. I had become something new, a good new, and with that, came new fears and new struggles, but I will deal. I can cope. And for now, I was happy with just that.
