Kamri Hanny

I've been locked up my entire life. I haven't felt the sun, I don't know what flowers look like. Hell, I don't even know what humans look like. The people I live with keep me behind a metal door and I can only see their eyes when they look for me. I don't have a mirror, hair brush or clothing that fits me. I don't even have a name, if I do, I don't know it.

I've been in this cellar for about 13 years, I don't remember how I got here, I just remember waking up in childs clothes locked in this room.

"Go to the corner!" The man yelled. I did as I was told not wanting to be beat again. He opened the door and slid my tray of food in, I wasn't allowed to look until he shut and locked the door.

They gave me rice, again and to drink, I always have water. Not that I minded the water, I actually like water. I've been trying to plan my escape for almost a year. The only way it seems I could escape is through the window. But I'd have to break it, so far I've found a glass bottle, an old tile and a ruler.

I can always use the tile to break the window, and use the bottle as a weapon if I need to. But I'm waiting for the right time. They always leave for a few days for vacation and I'm left without food. I hope they leave soon. I want to find my Mom. I hope she's still alive. I think about my family a lot by that I mean I think about them the way I think they look and sound.

I heard voices outside the window. I tip toed to the window and I actually saw another human figure, and it wasn't the man. I backed away, that man is still in the house so I had to be quiet. A few minutes pass and the small window opened. I could feel the wind on my face.

"Dude, it looks like someone sleeps here." The boy said.

"I don't feel comfortable here man, lets go." The other boy said. I couldn't see him but I could tell he was scared.

"C-can you help me?" I asked as quietly as I could. They both yelped. I was terrified. The man would be coming any second.

"You have to leave now, the man is coming and he'll kill you and me if he finds you!" I whisper yelled.

"I'll get help." The boys said and he shut the window just as the man yelled at me.

"What happened?! Why did you yell?!"

"I-I banged my f-foot on the bed. It w-won't happen again." I said quietly. I really hope that boy doesn't get caught, and he gets me help. I need to escape, I feel like this man will kill me if I don't.

I heard a knock on the window. The sun was down and it was dark and it was hard to see. The window opened and I saw the boy. He had a light with him.

"Here, I brought you a new outfit. Put it on and then I'll get you out of here." The boy brought me a shirt with the sleeves cut off, a pair of sweat-pants, some under garments, socks and a pair of boots. (I only know what these are called because I read a lot of books, thats all I have)

"Thank you." I said reaching for his hand. He pulled me out of the window and we ran across the grass to a house. He opened the door and called for his mom.

"The neighbour had her locked up in his basement." He said to the lady.

"Kamri? Is that you?" she asked coming closer.

"Kamri? This is Karmi?" He said looking at me.

"Its me, Nathan." He said still holding my hand. Nathan, I remember the name but its been a long time.

"We need to bring her to the the station Nathan." His mom said bringing us to the car.

The station was weird, but I've never been here before. They asked me questions about the man and about me. They took my finger prints and a DNA swab? I don't really know what they did. We waited for a few hours and they finally told me my name, birthday and who my family was. My name is Kamri Hanny, I was born May 19th and I'm 18 years old. I grew up with Nathan and his mom Jen and she's my mom's best friend.

My mothers name is Brylee Hanny, my dads name is Wren Hanny and I have a twin sister named Jessa. Jen called them.

"Kamri! Kamri! Where is she?! Where's my daughter?!" I knew that was my mom. I saw her standing by an officer.

"Mom?" She ran down the hall and hugged me really tight. I saw my dad and my sister and they hugged me too. Nathan and Jen were waiting by the door. We finally got to go home and I had my own bedroom. It had gray walls, and a bed with black and white sheets and blankets.

Nathan stayed with me, at the moment I trust him the most. We talked for hours, apparently, we're best friends and we said we were going to marry each other when we grew up. I even had a hot shower, mom taught me how to shave, I didn't even know that was a thing.

Jessa brushed my hair and dad made me some dinner. I didn't really talk a lot but thats nothing new for me. I wasn't allowed to say much when I was in that basement. Jen also stayed over while the police were aressting her neighbour.

Nathan and I had a really good connection, at least from my point of view, we didn't have to talk and I was comfortable.

*****************************************

Its been about a week since I've been home. We wen shopping for some new clothes and mom, Jessa and I had a spa day? It was a little weird but fun. Jessa and I look a lot a like but we have our differences. She has brown hair and green eyes, like our dad, and I have blonde hair and blue green eyes, like our mom. We're even the same height, but I'm really under weight.

My parents have a pool and hot tub and Nathan, Jessa, her boyfriend Jake and I were out back. Jessa let me wear one of her swim suits, a one piece until I can gain some weight back. It was black with dark green straps. I layed in the grass just looking at the sky for what seemed like hours.

"You want me to teach you to swim?" Nathan asked standing over me.

"Uh, as long as you don't let me drown, or joke about it." I said smiling, he likes to joke around about a lot of things, always trying to lighten the mood.
