The Day I Performed

“So you’re friends now with him?”Anna asked as she paints her toenails violet.

I really don’t like nail polish. Especially the violet and pink ones. It makes me think of Barbie and the girly personality she posses. However, I do like the jet black polish I’m currently wearing since I want to make a new impression to the school.

At this point, I dyed my hair fire truck red and wore my contacts instead of my glasses. I also bought some new wardrobe that ranges from bohemian goddess to rocker chic. To be honest, I actually like what I did. It makes me feel free and independent. Considering that I spent years building walls around me-making no one even Anna to enter.

I shook my head and snapped out my thoughts. Anna looked at me expectantly and I remembered she’s waiting for my answer. So I happily nodded and went straight to my closet. She noticed this and followed me clumsily with her toenails still wet from the polish. I pointed them just to make her realize the effects of what her clumsiness can affect because I swear to God Anna’s is the clumsiest person I know.

“Be careful I might step on your violet nails clumsy.”

“Honey, I’m a fucking ninja. Besides it’s just a step away what can possibly go wro-“

She tripped on a bottle of cuticle remover and falls face first on the floor. I laughed at this while she checks her polish which looks like crap now. However, it still looks better than what I expected it to be.

I helped her get up and walked towards my closet where I picked a shirt, some jeans, my beanie and my favorite jacket. Anna noticed this and grabbed my Chuck and Taylor’s under my bed. I then went straight to the bathroom to change.

When I finished, I slipped on my converse and left my room to go to the kitchen where mom and dad are nowhere to be seen.

I sighed and pulled a post-it to write on.

Hey momma and dada,

Me and Anna are going to the local diner to eat since there’s no food and were hungry.

Love,

Elsa

[P.S Anna wants to sing..]

I left the note on the countertop and called Anna so we can leave now because I’m starving and I need something edible and delicious immediately. Fortunately, Anna came down (clumsily) wearing a floral skirt, a denim-ish top and some weird looking shoes.

I’m not really good at fashion or anything similar in particular. However, I do know what her hair looks now since I dyed it for her. It was lilac and I’m pretty sure mom would flip out if she sees our hair. Not to mention my shirt.

You see, my parents knows me. They know what I like, what I hate and even the weirdest facts about me they know Although, they did not approve it.

One time I asked her to buy the new Fall Out Boy album and she said it was a waste of time. She said it was a life ruiner. A dream destroyer even. But did I stop?

Of course I did.

I stopped and I kinda regretted it. I mean I didn’t even fight for the album and the things that I like. It was like we’re playing Follow the Leader. They are setting an image in front of me and I, being the weak and coward that I am, follow them to achieve the said image.

Despite the you-are-going-to-be-like-me idea, they are pretty supportive to all the extra-curricular activities in school if it’s related to our studies. They also admire Anna’s voice since its smooth and clear unlike mine.
