Chapter 1:
Saying goodbyes was hard but I was so use to it. I was only going to be gone for the summer. To see my brother and his wife and kids in North Carolina. As I said my goodbyes to my mom I went inside to the O'hare airport in Chicago to redeem myself and be someone new.
I walked through the security and TSA agents, I bought a quick snack since I have an hour to wait. This would be my second time in South Carolina, but first time without an adult telling me where and what to do there. Now I can enjoy my time their and meet new people. Before I knew it time had flown past me and the ladies at the counters spoke through the microphone saying they are now boarding economy. I grabbed my black duffel bag and walked to have my ticket checked and board the plane. As I boarded the plan I checked out all the first class richies, then made my way down the never ending asle to 25B. As I took my seat I searched around all the seats and looked towards the people, seeing and thinking about all random facts about them as if I had known them in another life. One thing I dislike about planes is the smell, that certain smell that all airplanes have but everyone gets use to it after a bit once we are high in the air.
I had just one couple next to me, they didn't bother me much but I had this small feeling of envy. Across the asle was just some normal people you would see on a street and a mother with her new child. As the captain announced that we were however many feet in the air it made my stomach get a few butterflys, I like flying just the thought of falling and crashing into the earth scared me. Who wouldn't be scared? Just a two hours till we hit the ground and I can see my family. I had a feeling that this summer would feel a lot different, in a good way... Hopefully. Every year on summer I feel like I could find that perfect summer romance that is in all the lame books I read, I try to find a safe place to land for just a bit. But being told each day at school that I have no affection of anyone doesn't help me much. I'm not gothic or anything like that, I just like to keep a barrier around me. I feel if someone gets to close that's a weakness that your enemies can use against you.
The plane was close to landing and I could feel my body shake with excitment. I smiled played across my face every now and then, looking back at the momeries of the past. As the captain spoke over the radio his voice had a distaint, tired voice like he had been working all day and night and just could not fly anymore. He just wanted his sleep. As the couple next to me would not seem to quiet down, every now and then the girl would start laughing with her man and they would start to talk more and more.
Landing was smooth except for the butterflies erupting from my stomach. I was so happy for summer just to hang out with my brother his wife and my nephews. Thankfully his nephews were my age. I slowly got off the plane, and walked down the walkway to a huge crowd of people waiting for their flight. As I walked from the huge crowd I found a sign leading me to the baggage area. Walking for what felt like hours I arrived to a very full and busy carusole area. I grabbed my bag exiting through doors to an even larger group of people from the baggage area trying to find at least one familiar face, I walked slowly scanning through the find types of people. I reached the end of the line defeated, my family was no where to be seen. Maybe they were late, there might have been traffic. I wanted to text my oldest nephew, Thomas, but I didn't want to seem impaient. I continued to walk just around in circles in a seating area when out of nowhere I hear, damn auntie you've gotten tall. I smirk and jumped into Thomas' arms.
"Your not suppose to curse in front of your aunt," I say in a stern voice but I would be a hypocrite since I'm a year younger than him and I swear just as much.
"And I thought you were the fun aunt," Thomas said with defeat.
"So where is everyone?" I asked looking behind me wondering if they were going to pop out anywhere.
"Well Jake is at home probably past out on the couch, dad is at work and mom is shopping. So I, whonow has a drivers lisences, will be taking you back home," he said with a proud smile. I was happy for him to be getting his license Jake, my younger nephew is my age except I'm a few months older so I'll be getting my license once I get back home to my mom. After congratulating Thomas we heading towards the parking lot and headed towards Thomas' car. After putting my bag in the trunk we hopped into the small car, we talked about high school, college, sports, and just how life has been in general.
