CHAPTER THREE:
When I get home I go straight to my room to change. I put on some black tights, a sports bra, and a tank top. Walking back into the living room, to go to the kitchen to get some cheese-its. I try to decide if I should get on Netflix, but I didn’t have much time because my doorbell rang. “Flip” I whisper. I walk to the door and peep out the peephole. I see Kristin holding a groceries bag. Of course, who else would come to my house? I open the door, ready to yell at her if she came to talk about what happened at work. I stopped myself when I see Kyla beside her.
“Hey Kristin, hey Kylie Cat!” I met Kyla last week and she loves nicknames. When I made her nickname, she started calling me NaNi. “NaNi, momma says I’m spending the day with you!” Before a blink of an eye Kyla runs and wraps her arms around my waist. I look down at her, before looking at Kristin with a raised eyebrow. “Really? All day?” Kristin looked at me with pleading eyes and holds her hands together in a prayer stance. “That’s great Kylie Cat! Why don’t you go ahead and turn the TV to whatever you want. I’ll be there soon.” Kylie lets me go and runs inside. I watch her as she gets on the couch, then I turn around when Kristin starts talking. “Look before you start yelling at me, let me explain first! I have a good reason for dumping Kyla on you and last minute at that!” When I didn’t say anything she continued. “You remember I told you about my clients the Lynols? Well they just made an emergency appointment and Aaron won’t get off work until 9 and you’re the only other person I know that could watch her. Kyla doesn’t like most people, but she likes you.” I guess that’s a good reason. It’s not like I was doing anything.
“It’s fine; I don’t mind Kylie at all. How about I watch her every Thursday? That way you’ll get some time for yourself?” “That would be awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Oh, and I brought some snacks and movies.” She hands me the groceries bag and I wave her off to work. After Kylie and I watch The Lorax, I decide we need ice-cream. I go against taking my car since it’s an ice-cream shop around the corner from Inserts. Kylie gets brownie blast and I get cookie dough brownie surprise. We ended up walking to the park when I realized we’d have nothing else to do when we got home. Kylie runs off as soon as I sit down on a bench.
I was staring off into space for at least thirty minutes when a ball smacked me in the leg. This is my life we’re talking about, so of course that would happen. “Oh I am so, so, so, so sorry miss!” I heard, I turn and see the cutest little boy. “I wasn’t paying attention to where I was kicking.” He’s frowning now; he looks like he’s having an internal battle. I decide to let him out of his misery. “Oh, no it’s fine sweetie. I wasn’t paying attention anyways.” He looks like he was about to apologize again but he got cut off. “Nico! Nico where’d you go?” The little boy, who I guess was named Nico, looked up at before turning around. “Over here!” he yelled. I guess I was spacing out again because next thing I know, suit and tie is in front of me, whispering in Nico’s ear. Nico nods, then runs back to the group of kids that Kylies playing with. I look away when I see Nico run away. A minute passes before I feel the bench dip a little beside me. It feels as if time had just stopped. I feel is body heat, that’s how close we are. He takes a deep breath and shifts a little. Out of my peripheral I see that he’s now facing me. Well now I feel more uncomfortable.
I guess he figured I wasn’t going to say anything, so he speaks instead. I really wish he hadn’t spoken though. “We meet again.” Now I have to say something. I don’t want to; I don’t even want to look at his face. Once I do I know it’ll be a repeat of earlier. I rather not get sucked back into his eyes. “It would seem so.” Short and simple, now it’s time to get the hell out of here. I quickly stand up and start walking towards the end of the park. Then I realize I almost forgot something. “Kylie! Let’s go!” I scream before turning around. I tried, I really did but for some reason my eyes dashed towards the bench where suit and tie is. He seems in deep thought, yet he’s staring directly at me. I look away when Kylie reaches me. “Did you have fun Kylie Cat?” “Tons”
