We walked for a couple hours looking for food and hiding from unexpected visitors( aka other tributes).
After it got dark we both layed down a fire blanket (note: he found a bag and there was a match, fire blanket, and a can for water) and looked for wood to start a fire with.
"won't people see the smoke?" I asked, whispering softly.
Jake motionied the universal "shut the hell up" signal and I stayed quiet.
we found enough fire wood to keep us warm for about 30 minutes and headed back to camp.
Luckily, when we got there, nobody stole our things. I guess we were farther out than other groups.
we set up the fire and sat. hungry and cold.
after for what felt like 10 minutes of silence, I just had to ask him a question ive been dying to know for hours.
"Where is the district three girl?"
he looked up at me. hard, cold eyes, that soon filled with tears.
"My girlfriend is the other tribute and... after the countdown she tried to kill me. I ran away but thats why ive been like that. you cant be sane after your girlfriend lunges at you trying to get her hands around your neck." He said.
wow... I really shouldn't have asked that.
I stretched my legs out and put my weight on my arms.
"what about your other tribute?" he said.
"well, you said a boy from 11 died, right?" I asked.
"yeah" he answered. "oh... I see."
I didnt take it that hard. I didnt know the kid but I feel sorry for his family. we lived in the same district so I should show some sympathy but, I dont have time for that. I need to fight. Or just hide until everybody's dead.
but then I remembered... Until everybody's dead.
everybody.
I Might die soon. I might live a while. but either way, Jake has to win this. with or without me. I cant let him die.
