Amanda strolled down the pathway, looking at her Rose Gold iPhone 7, beaming from ear to ear as she had just met up with Zayn. Suddenly, she received a WhatsApp message from Xylem.

Xylem: Love you!

Amanda hesitated. She did not want to break Xylem's heart.

Xylem: Can we meet up?

She typed slowly, clicking 'Send' only after much hesitation

:) Sure. KFC at 6pm?

Xylem replied cheerily: Yay!

K was Amanda's quick reply.

"Oh, I just can't wait till 6," muttered Amanda sarcastically to herself. Fisting her hand through her dark hair, she sighed breathlessly and walked towards her destination. She hoped this wasn't her worst mistake.

"Amanda!" Xylem shouted from a corner of KFC, waving his arms around as he saw the black haired, awkward, tall girl with black glasses enter the air-conditioned restaurant.

Amanda blushed when she saw him and Xylem's heart rate increased. He could feel his heart beating hard against his chest, underneath his cotton shirt.

"Hi," she forced a smile as Xylem cringed. The smile wasn't sincere, and she hoped Xylem wouldn't notice.

Standing up, he walked towards her, pulling out her chair. She sat down, uncomfortable. She didn't realize she was making a face. "You... feeling alright?" He asked, worried.

"I..," Amanda bit her lip. "I have something to tell you."

Amanda's eyes avoided his gaze.

"I.. I don't love you. It was a lie, everything. I never loved you, you just thought I did. I didn't tell you cause I didn't wanna break your heart. I..." Amanda seethed, the tiniest hint of sincere in her voice. She exhaled softly and looked him in the eye. "We're only friends."

He stared at her, dumbfounded. She had lied to him. No wonder she was always declining when he asked her out. Her words hit him harder than stone. Actually, he would rather get hit by a stone than hear those words coming from her mouth.

Swallowing hard, he asked, "H...how long has this been going on?" His entire body was quivering with absolute terror.

Amanda shook her head. "Since we met. We've only been friends, even until this day."

She pushed backward, the squeaking of the metal chair against the ceramic flooring. She stood up and reached into her bag. In her hand was a priceless necklace, one he had given her on their 2nd date.

"Give it to your true lover, I'm not her." Amanda set the necklace down, and stalked out of the KFC.

His jaw fell open as she left him alone at the table, feeling dumbfounded and shocked.

His face crumpled up when he realized that she was not joking, not turning around to say, "LOL! YOU FELL RIGHT FOR THAT ONE!" and hug him and tell him it was all a joke.

Because it wasn't a joke. Not anymore. It never was. His love was a lie. Their relationship was just a story. Just a god damned lie. And he wanted her back.
