I wasn’t really hungry by the time it came to lunch. I couldn’t focus on anything. I couldn’t concentrate on anything my teacher was saying. I took notes, but I didn’t really know what I was supposed to be doing. Luckily I wasn’t called on to give an answer. I couldn’t stop thinking about Darius. I lied to Grace earlier. I wasn’t blind. Of course I saw those biceps. I felt those arms as he pulled me upright. I even felt his strength in his hand shake. I rested my chin on my hand and found a spot on the wall to stare at. I heard a cough, followed by a crumpled up piece of notebook paper. Grace sent me a note from across the lunch table.
Still thinking about mr hottie?
I shook my head and mouth back. “No. As if.” She laughed and shrugged. “Whatever.” She was practically sitting in Dante’s lap. I knew she’d always liked him. They hooked up a couple times during summer break but neither of them had discussed taking anything further than that.
“Hey baby.” Colt pressed a kiss to my forehead. He was clearly in a better mood. “How was class?” “It was ok…sucks to be back.” “I know. We can’t stay abroad forever. Mom text, she wants to know if you’re coming over for dinner tonight.” I bit my lip and examined my shoes. “Are you sure she asked me? She spent most of the summer with me. I thought she’d be happy to get some family time.” Colt lifted me up and sat me down on his lap. “Yeah, and you are my family. And I want to spend time with you.” Colt pressed a kiss behind my ear before his hand crept up my thigh, “alone time.” “Colt!” I said, louder than I had meant to. “Stop!” I pleaded through gritted teeth. “For fuck sakes,” Colt leapt up and pushed me off his lap. “I could have any girl here and I’m with the one frigid bitch who doesn’t want to move past first base.” I didn’t have a response. “That was uncalled for Colton.” Molly made her way over to me and ushered me out of the silent cafeteria.
“Did he have to say that in front of everybody? I know he gets teased about being the only virgin on the football team. But I’m not ready, surely he can understand that.” “He’s a guy, virginity to them is like head lice, they have to get rid of it asap. He’s an ass for talking about your sex life and an even bigger ass for bringing it up in front of people like that.” “Maybe I should just get it over with. Then we’ll stop bringing our drama to school. He’ll be happy and we can stop arguing.” Molly shot me a look I think was reserved for her future children. “Don’t you dare give him your virginity to make him happy, you clearly don’t want to lose it to him, I wouldn’t either.” “What do you mean?” “Nothing, it’s nothing, forget I said anything.” “No. What don’t I know Mol? Tell me!” She swallowed. This was bad, if Molly was nervous. “Umm, it’s not, a guaranteed fact. Just something I heard today.” “Just spit it out Molly come on.”
“I heard Becky say she screwed Colt before you guys went away.” My legs buckled beneath me. “No. she’s lying. She’s lying.” I pounded the floor until someone seized my hands. Deep down I knew she could be telling the truth. Becky’d always wanted him. She’d tried to seduce him on more than one occasion. She even undressed herself and waited in his bed one night. Colt told me about it, every time. He told me he said no, that he’d pushed her out of his room, out of his house. If they had been together, intimately, that would explain why he let her touch him and why he was so touchy feely during our holiday. “It’s all lies, all of it. She’s a lying bitch.” Molly released my hands. I dabbed my eyes with the backs of my hands and stormed back into the cafeteria. Becky was sitting on the table I’d not long vacated, massaging Colt’s shoulders. “Colt baby, I was wondering if you could give me a ride home?” I punched her straight in the nose and I sent her flying to the ground. “No he won’t. And stay away from my man you lying bitch. If you ever go near him again…and that includes turning up naked in his bed…I’ll kill you.” Colt picked me up and flung me over his shoulder. He didn’t stop until we were outside by the field. “What was that?” “I’m so sorry baby. She lies and lies about you…to everyone. I just can’t take it anymore.” Colt forced his lips to mine in a kiss that released both of our tension. “It’s ok. Baby, I’ve never seen you that rattled up. It kind of turned me on.” He pressed my hand to his groin so I could feel it for myself. “Let’s get out of here.” “You planning on skipping? You never skip.” “There’s a first time for everything.” I took Colt’s hand and headed towards his car. His smile grew wider. “You mean… I’m going to get past second base.” “Like I said, there’s a first time for everything.”
