Elizabeth's POV
I've been sitting in my room ever since I heard the news, I couldn't believe it.
Two days have already gone by but it still new to me.
I thought it was a joke mom was playing on me, but dad confirmed it. It didn't sound any better coming from him.
I tried talking them out if it but they had already made up their minds. And so had I. I don't know who they think they are, that they think they have the right to choose a husband for me.
Today I had to go out because I had a lecture. Which meant I had to drive for another two hours.
Mom kept my bags and threatened that if I wasn't back by six she would send someone to drag me back.
I haven't seen Erik ever since or heard from him. I feel like he is avoiding me.
Finding out my future husband was no other than Charles Greene, didn't make it any easier to accept.
Charles Greene was my childhood friend, we used to do everything together. Sometimes Allison even complained that we were keeping her out. The problem started when we started school, we no longer talked or saw each other like we used to. Suddenly he was always busy. When I tried talking to him he would yell at me, taking his anger out on me. From there, our friendship broke.
In high school it was even worse he started bullying me and even told me to get plastic surgery because he felt like vomiting whenever he saw my face (apparently). He was part of the 'cool kids'. It even got to a point where it forced me to leave the school. After that, I never saw him again, and I don't honestly ever want to.
"Mrs Jane, are you paying attention?" Nate asked in a flirtatious tone.
Nate was also studying to be a medical doctor. This was the third time he switched his.
First, it was an engineer, then a lawyer and now a doctor. He had the brains for it so it wasn't a challenge.
He seems to be competing with me, always trying to outsmart me.
"Yes," I replied.
I slapped my cheeks lightly trying to get myself to concentrate.
Soon the lesson needed. I had to get back home after work because of a dinner party my parents were having. Which meant I had to ask Mark to let me out early.
I packed my books into my bag ignoring Nate who was standing beside me.
"Here you go," Nate said handing me a pen. "It was on the floor."
I took it from his hand giving him a small smile.
I somehow couldn't help but feel awkward with Nate. He once confessed he had feelings for me while drunk. Ever since I've always felt awkward around him. Thank God the next day in the morning he had already forgotten everything that happened that night.
Nate offered to drop me off at work. Erik usually comes to pick me up considering my lessons usually end when his lunchtime starts, but today he didn't come. He still wasn't returning my calls.
The journey to work was silent. Neither one of us dared to speak. The tension built up after he turned on the radio.
"Bye," I say to him as I got out of the car.
"Bye," he replied.
"May I please take your order," I asked the girls sitting in front of me.
"Can I please get diet water." She said.
At first, I thought I heard wrong, I asked her again and she insisted she wanted diet water.
I don't know whether I'm going deaf lately or whether I'm surrounded by a bunch of idiots.
A few minutes ago I just had a lady order potatoes without starch.
I went to the kitchen getting her order.
After work, I called dad to get me a driver, it was either that or I wasn't showing up. And I won't mind not showing up.
I run upstairs to put on a white dress that my mom got me for the party.
It was laying on my bed already ironed.
I wore the dress the stared at my reflection looking like I was going to a prom.
Then I went downstairs yo join the others only to see that the guests had already arrived.
"Our son Charles will be a bit late he phoned us saying he had to deal with something in the office, but he should be here any minute from now." A woman who looked like she was in her fifty's said. I think that was Charles's mom. I haven't seen her in ten years.
"It's OK. What a hard-working young man he is." My mom replied.
I rolled my eyes at that statement only to see my father glaring at me.
"You look so beautiful." I heard the woman say, only for everyone to turn their full attention on me.
After that, we had a peaceful moment.
I swear I've never been more bored than at this moment. It was the worst moment of my life having your parents talk about how many grandchildren they expect from you.
Like what kind of parent does that!
Mine!
I wasn't going to marry the guy let alone have children with him.
Right after we had finished our very unpleasant greetings the doorbell rang.
"Eliza can you please go open the door, it must be him." My mother said getting a bit excited. "Don't forget to smile." She whispered to me.
I just rolled my eyes and went to open the door.
Have you ever done something that you regret afterwards?
I did, I opened the door only to be shocked at who was standing in front of me.
"You again!" He exclaimed as soon as I opened the door.
Right in front of me was standing the last person I expected to see.
He was staring at me with his grey eyes that made me feel uneasy. He had a smirk on his face as if he was expecting me.
The way he looked at me was so intimidating, his eyes roaming my body.
So I did the first thing that came to my mind.
Shut the door in his face.
