They had been found guilt of the murder:

They found themself stuck in the bottom of a huge plant pot. How would they get out? Of course, by climbing onto the plant and then jumping out, right!? But the plant... As they turned, a green, prickly cactus stood there. They were terrified. Obviously, they had worked with cacti plenty of times, but climbing this hazardous plant? But without thinking, they had began climbing, grabbing onto the thick stems. My, they were pointy! One mistake and they could be in serious trouble! Ignoring all pain, they proceeded to the top, and then they stopped. Their legs had been somehow almost dislocated and as for their left hand, it had fallen off! Yet, they stayed determined. A leap of faith, it's called. Full of hope, they jumped, but not long after that, despair had already set in...
