For a couple days the name of this girl (who had indeed resulted in us retaking this exam) floated the news. Her funeral was to be held in a week. People who knew her mourned her precious death, as did strangers who probably didn't care either way.
I didn't care.
And I sure as hell didn't know why strangers- of all people strangers- cared when it was too late anyway.
They didn't know here so what was the point of crying over it?
"Maybe cause they're sorry for what happened to her, Lisa. Sal was young."
I realized I had spoken my question out loud and my best friend, Jeniss, was now in front of me and had answered my question.
I sighed. "I know, but still. It's like they didn't even know who she was until her ugly face made her way into the news! What's the point of caring about her now?"
"It's how society is." She took out a banana and began munching on it. It was lunch at the moment, and we were sitting in the library. The library was our eat/meet hang out every day during lunch and afterschool.
Yeah, maybe in a way that made us look like nerds, but the cafeteria was loud.
"Society's gotta change. Hey... Maybe I could manage to change society and be famous-"
Jen cut me off with a laugh, "Not happening Lisa"
She threw the banana peel on the floor and began walking out just as the bell rang. "See you later. Think of some other way to be famous" She muffled a laugh and left.
"Yeah, maybe I could break your face and get famous like that." I grumbled under my breath as I gathered my things. I left as well and ran off to my next and last class. The librarian stopped me though.
"Miss? Is this yours?" she asked, holding up the banana peel with two perfectly manicured fingers in disgust. Not wanting to deal with it, I lied.
"No."
As I ran to Global, I continuously heard her shrieking 'Miss!' after me.
