JOEY'S P.O.V

"You're hand is smoking." Y/n says, her eyes wide. Panic shoots through my body and I say she should leave. Y/n puts her head down like she is concentrating really hard and her hair moves in front of her face. She slowly gets up and walks towards the door. She almost gets there but I grab her wrist and pull her to face me. She spins around, her loose hair moving with the sudden action and looks me dead in the eye.

YOUR P.O.V

Joey grabs my wrist and spins me to face him. I look him in the eyes and examine them. They have surprise, shock, fear, and something like happiness. Realization.

"You know don't you?" He asks, his voice a low whisper.

"I think so... You are one, aren't you?" I answer, my eyes never leaving his beautiful ones.

"A what, Y/n. I want to be sure, I need to be sure that you know." Joey basically pleads. You see the desperation in his eyes and you could feel it tugging at your heart.

"A-a," you struggle to find the word you called yourself, "a project." You finish. You picked a word your mother had used when you were very young. Picked it from a rotten memory like picking dying fruit from the tree of life. You're tree.

*flashback*

You walked down the dimly lit hallway of the place you once called home. But really it was just a lab. You heard voices coming from behind the corner. You carefully walked towards the voices, your feet padding lightly on the concrete floor. Everything was grey. From the floor to the light grey wallpaper, which was chipping away to reveal concrete bricks. The fluorescent lighting only made the colours more eerie.

One voice in particular drew five year-old you towards the people. And that voice was your mom's voice. It sounded as if she was arguing with a male. But it wasn't your father. Being the curious person you are you peaked around the corner.

"How could you do this to my child, Vince?! I love her!" Your mother yelled. Her long y/h/c hair was pulled into a low ponytail over her white lab coat. You always knew you lived in a lab but you never knew why. Until that one day.

"You signed up for this, Ten." The man , Vince, said calmly.

"I signed up for this because my husband did! I did it for love! I never knew what I was getting myself into! I never knew what I'd be getting Y/n into. She's never going to have a normal life now thanks to me." Your mother said, talking with her  shaking hands. "I know what I'll do. I will take her from here and you'll never see her or me again! That way she can live a normal life." Your mother's voice was cold.

You were completely frozen. Where you were. You didn't knew what they were talking about but it was intense enough for you to be glued to the spot you were standing. Very suddenly, there was a gun in the man's hand. It reflected the light from the bright light he was standing under.

"I don't want to do this to you, but I have to. I can't have you spreading the word about this lab and theatening this experiment." Vince's voice was low and grave like he truly didn't want to say it. Whatever it was. You were to young to know what was going on so you just stayed quiet.

"No," your mother tried to run. You heard a loud bang and saw your mother fall to the ground. The man walked up to her. You ran up to her.

"Mom!" You sat down beside her. Blood was pouring out of the back on her head onto the cold cement floor.

"I'm sorry, Y/n," The doctor put his hand on your back in attempt to comfort you.

     "Why!?" You screamed at him.

"She was going to try to take you from me. I couldn't let that happen now could I? You're my most successful subject besides Joey." He said in a soothing  voice.

You stood up and tried to run but you didn't make it very far. He grabbed your shirt and pulled you back causing you to gasp. Vince covered your mouth and picked you up in an awkward way which couldn't have been comfortable for him nor was it for you. He walked down the hallway until he came to a white door. It looked just like any other door in the place, white, metal and plain with a small light right above it. Except one thing. This door didn't have a small window on the top like the others.

He pulled out a key and opened the door revealing a dark room inside. A single light bulb hung from the ceiling. The doctor switched the light on and it flickered to life, casting a faint light in the grey room. It had a cement floor and cement walls. Vince threw you down onto the floor harshly and you cried out in pain.

"I can't risk you trying to run off or telling anyone anything. And I can't have your father looking for you or questioning anything." The doctor said in a cold voice.

"No! Please don't do anything to dad! Please!" You pleaded, tears starting to stream down your face.

"I'm sorry, Y/n. Nothing you can do about it now." VInce turned the light off  and left the room. The door closed behind him with a loud bang.

He left you shivering on the floor. Scared and cold you felt you could do nothing but cry. You say on the cold floor and cried yourself to sleep not knowing when he'd come back of if he ever would.

*end of flashback*

"Hey, Y/n. It's okay now. We are safe." Joey grabs your hand. You hadn't noticed before but tears were now falling slowly down your face. He leads you to the couch and sits you down. He sits beside you and wraps an arm around you.

     "You-you don't understand, we aren't safe." You're voice cracks.

"I'll protect you." Joey says in attempt to comfort you.

"But what if your protection isn't enough? What if our powers aren't enough?"
