Ian walked out with me right behind him after grabbing my black coat from the coat handle situated nearby the front door. I noticed that Ian was walking ahead of me down the front pathway of my house and wondered why he was not waiting for me to catch up or even try and take my hand. Perhaps he was in too much of a rush? I brushed it off as him just being far too nervous because of tonight, but even inside the limo his behavior continued to seem odd as he became rather distant from me. I thought of another reason which could be behind my boyfriend's odd behavior tonight. Maybe he had had a tough first day at work starting at his father's company in town. Yes! That must be it! As soon as his nerves settle down, he will tell me all about his day. I knew his father was a bit rough on him at times especially for the direction in life he was planning on going. Ian wanted to branch out, continue his sporting career throughout college, but only after taking a break from school. His father on the other hand wanted him in college and finishing off his studies. I sort of was secretly on his father's side, but I wanted to be the supportive girlfriend I knew I should be for Ian so I kept that opinion to myself and advised Ian to go for what he wanted to do. Not like he really needed my advice anyway as Ian had already bought a ticket to France. He was planning on leaving for an European tour during this school break which meant I only had a week with him before I started college and he was off to another continent. Could we survive long distance? I was sure we could seeing as we had survived our senior year together. Was I happy about him just leaving without really talking to me about it? No, but it wasn't like I had a choice on the matter. I just kept reminding myself on how I wanted to be a supportive girlfriend for Ian and not one of those nagging control freak girlfriends one hears so much about these days.

We pulled up at my favorite diner and Ian switched almost automatically into gentleman mode by rushing out to open the door for me. He helped me out, finally taking my hand for the first time tonight and led me inside. The diner was super busy and we definitely stood out, but I didn't mind. This was our place. We even had our own little booth in the far corner where we would make out when no one was looking. Ian had me seated first before he slipped into his seat directly opposite me. He was playing nervously with the cufflinks of his tuxedo's sleeves. I reached out and took his hand.

"Relax Ian. Why are you so nervous tonight?" I said with a reassuring smile on my face.

"I'm going quickly to the gents. Be right back." Ian said, taking me by surprise. He couldn't even look me in the eye as he said that.

Before I knew it Ian was almost running away from me in the direction of the gents while I was currently seated alone at our special booth. I could not help, but notice a few odd stares at me seated alone here like a fool. There was something up and it was starting to bother me as a bad feeling formed in the pit of my stomach. My phone buzzed in the purse I had laid down on the table before me. I took it out to see who was messaging me at this moment. Anything to distract me from picturing myself sitting here alone here like this. Fortunately it was Ming checking up on me.

So?

I got a bad feeling Ming. I am currently sitting here alone. Something doesn't feel right.

Where is Ian?

He is in the gents quickly.

Why do you have a bad feeling?

Just the way Ian is behaving. Very distant.

He is probably just even more nervous than what you are. Relax Kat.

I wish it were so simple.

It is! Stop stressing! You have been waiting for this happy ending your whole life ever since your dad decided to be an absent parent. You deserve it so stop stressing and enjoy the moment please! Ian is not your dad!
