Ella Hawkins
A dark haired girl approached me. Her eyebrows furrowed as she fixed her dark brown eyes on me.
"How dare you leave me!" She yelled ten feet away. It was Genesis Lockhart. My best friend.
Genesis was now in front of me. Her facial expression was one that was both sad and angry, but happy at the same time. I was leaving her and she didn't know how to feel about the news. How are you supposed to feel about your best friend moving away from you?
I suggested she move with me, since she had the money. She came from a very wealthy family, where both of her parents are successful business people. She had the happy life. Big house, wealth, picture perfect family, and endless possibilities for her future. Then there was my family. My father left when I was eleven, for reasons my mother says to never mention aloud. So it was just me and my mother for as long as I could remember. She was a lawyer, but after a bad case she hadn't been making much income for us.
"Psh!" Genesis scoffed.
"Why would I move there with the snobby kids", she questioned. "I like my people normal. You know, those who don't care about chipping a nail." I crossed my arms at her response as she giggled at the thought of her with those kind of people.
"At least you'll be getting away from Kyran", she told me as she crossed her arms.
Kyran.
His name gave me chills and made my heart start beating rapidly. He was psychotic. Abusive. Manipulative.
My ex-boyfriend.
"Yeah", I said while taking in a deep breath. "I need to get away from him as soon as possible."
Genesis continued on talking, but I heard nothing. I was lost in thought. My mind wandered to all the times Kyran and I had together. How beautiful it was at first, and how it quickly became destructive--toxic.
Genesis sheepishly rubbed her arm as she noticed my lack of attention. She knew how sensitive I was to the subject of him. She saw how uncomfortable I was and changed the subject.
"Make sure to try out for the team!" She exclaimed trying to snap me back to reality. "Don't let those preps get in your head. You're the best player here and I want to challenge you on the field", she continued.
I laughed at her confidence. "You're excited to lose!" I teased.
"Oh, please!" she scoffed condescendingly. "Game on, Hawkins."

I came home to my mother on the floor packing the remaining of her items. I looked around and saw our house nearly empty. The scene of kind of broke my heart. This house held so many memories of my once together family and it was strange to leave it all behind.
My mother stood up and greeted me. Her tired green eyes could finally rest once we moved out of this place. It reminded her too much of my father.
"Ready to go, Ella?" She asked me. I shot her a soft smile and nodded in response. I followed her eyes as they were now looking behind me. I turned around to find Henry standing there. His light gray locks falling perfectly around his face while he crossed his arms smiling at my mother.
Henry was my mother's newly wedded husband. He was great for her. He was kind and gentle, but a little old-fashioned. And he was the reason we were moving. Apparently, he's a rich man that can provide for us more if we move into his home.
"The van's here. Let's load these boxes", he told us. He assisted my mother with her belongings as I went up to my bedroom to collect my things. I didn't have much--maybe a box or two.
