Andy: Hey, baby!

Elina: Hey.

Andy: How’s your evening?

Elina: Uneventful. Yours?

Andy: Same. But talking to you is about to change that.

Elina: Oh?

Andy: Yeah. You tend to make things… interesting.

Elina: I have that effect on people.

Andy: On people? Or just me?

Elina: I guess you’ll never know.

Andy: Tease.

Elina: Always.

Andy: And yet, I keep falling for it.

Elina: That’s your problem, not mine.

Andy: It’s definitely your problem. You’re responsible for making me this way.

Elina: Can’t help it. Some of us are just effortlessly charming.

Andy: You really are.

Elina: I know.

Andy: Cocky.

Elina: Confident.

Andy: And yet, I bet if I saw you right now, you’d still blush.

Elina: I do not blush.

Andy: Liar.

Elina: Prove it.

Andy: Let me see you.

Elina: And how exactly do you plan on doing that?

Andy: Simple. Send me a picture.

Elina: Just like that?

Andy: Just like that.

Elina: Alright, hold on.

(Elina sends a picture.)

Andy: I fell.

Elina: For me? 😂

Andy: For that picture.

Elina: Same thing.

Andy: Not exactly.

Elina: Explain.

Andy: I already fell for you. The picture just made it worse.

Elina: Smooth.

Andy: It’s the truth.

Elina: Is it?

Andy: Every word.

Elina: And what if I don’t believe you?

Andy: Then you have trust issues.

Elina: Maybe.

Andy: Let me fix that.

Elina: And how do you plan on doing that?

Andy: By showing up at your door.

Elina: Andy.

Andy: Baby.

Elina: You’re impossible.

Andy: But you love it.

Elina: Debatable.

Andy: You’re still talking to me, so I must be doing something right.

Elina: Or maybe I’m just bored.

Andy: If that’s true, then let me make things more exciting.

Elina: And how would you do that?

Andy: Let’s meet.

Elina: You’re serious?

Andy: Dead serious.

Elina: Andy, it’s late.

Andy: So? I won’t even stay long. Just a few minutes.

Elina: Just to do what?

Andy: Just to look at you.

Elina: That’s ridiculous.

Andy: But tempting?

Elina: …Maybe.

Andy: That sounds like a yes.

Elina: That sounds like a maybe.

Andy: Maybe is one step from yes.

Elina: Or one step from no.

Andy: I’ll take my chances.

Elina: You always do.

Andy: You know me too well.

Elina: Unfortunately.

Andy: Lies. You love it.

Elina: Debatable.

Andy: Then tell me no. Right now.

Andy: You’re thinking too long. That’s a yes.

Elina: It’s not a yes.

Andy: But it’s not a no, either.

Elina: I don’t trust you.

Andy: Ouch.

Elina: I mean it. You say all the right things too easily.

Andy: Maybe they’re easy to say because they’re true.

Elina: Or because you’re just good at saying them.

Andy: You really think I do this with just anyone?

Elina: Maybe.

Andy: You know, for someone who teases so much, you’re really bad at taking it.

Elina: Am I?

Andy: Yeah. You keep running from this conversation.

Elina: Maybe.

Andy: There it is again.

Elina: What?

Andy: The “maybe.” Your favorite word when you don’t want to admit something.

Elina: That’s ridiculous.

Andy: And yet, you didn’t deny it.

Elina: Nevermind.

Andy: You lived that moment?

Elina: What?

Andy: Nevermind.

Elina: Nevermind.

(A pause. The conversation should end here. It would be easy to leave it at that.)

Andy: I meant it, you know.

Elina: Meant what?

Andy: That I want to see you.

Elina: Andy…

Andy: No pressure. But if you want me to, say the word.

(Elina stares at the screen. Her heart is racing. She shouldn’t say yes. It’s late. It’s reckless. It’s stupid. But God, she wants to.)

Elina: Nevermind.

(She puts her phone down. Five seconds later, it buzzes again.)

Andy: If I say goodnight now, will you miss me?

(Her fingers hesitate)

Elina: Nevermind.

(She locks her phone. But she doesn’t stop smiling.)
