Elaine(High School, 15 years old)

Cackling grew softer as I sprinted down the dirt path. My lungs were on fire but I had to keep going. Soon I would be free! A blood curling scream stopped me in my tracks. Who was that? I turned my heels, heading back into the eerie darkness. I listened for any sign of life. Nothing. I gulped. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him. My heart sank. A man was tied up to a tree while another chanted strange words. The tied up man writhed in pain. I couldn't bear to continue watching this torture. I fled. My heart pounded with every step I took. I reached the edge of the dark forest out of breath and sobbing. Not glancing back, I walked away.

Sunshine filled my bedroom. I stared into my mirror perfecting my makeup. My winged liner had to be perfect. The doorbell rang. I groaned steadying my liquid pen. I heard my father answer the door. Good I let out a breath. I finished getting ready then went downstairs to the kitchen. My best friend, Sara Grey, stood in her perfectly white crisp cheerleading uniform with a huge smile plastered on her face.

"Ellie, ready to go?" She handed me a cereal bar and my thermos of coffee.

"Sure am. Bye daddy." I kissed his cheek and grabbed my things to go to school.

I fidgeted while we waited for the bus. Sara noticed. I lowered my eyes ashamed that I was letting a nightmare of all things bother me.

"You okay El?" She asked gently.

"I had that nightmare again!" I said annoyed.

"I'm sorry. You know I am here if you ever want to tell me what it is actually about." She hugged me.

I hugged her back. She would never find out what it was about. It made me look insane. For the past couple of months, I have been having this dream where I was running through a forest. A scream would force me to turn around even though I was trying to leave. A guy was tied up to a tree and another one was chanting something in what I believed to be Latin. Then I freaked out from tied up guy's pain and fled. I never looked behind me as I ran. I needed to know why I kept having it. Why was I there anyway? Who were those men?

I kept pondering over the dream. I wasn't sure how I got to my locker but I did. As I was about to turn to go to class, I felt a body collide into mine. Way to go loser, I'm going to be late I thought to myself. My books flew and my homework was scattered all over the floor. I groaned. Could today get any worse?

"I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" A deeper male voice asked me.

"Yeah. I can get my things by myself." I mumbled.

I saw he had his hand outreached waiting to help me up. I took it. My hazel eyes met his ocean blue ones. I knew who they belonged to. My heart skipped a beat. It was the goth guy! The football team tormented him everyday. I didn't like it but I never said anything. Our gaze held for a few moments. His eyes were so beautiful yet I could see so much suffering in them. Who had caused that?

"Again I'm really sorry." He apologized.

"Whatever your name is, it's okay. Trust me. No broken bones." I let go of his hand.

"The names Anthony." He smiled.

"Don't care. I'm late for my chemistry class. Thanks for the help." I gathered my things and sprinted down the hallway.

Sara saved me a seat. Luckily I made on time. My teacher wasn't pleased. Even though I acted like a brat in front of him, I couldn't stop grinning. I touched his hand. No one knew I had the biggest crush on him. I had no idea why but I fell hard for him the first day of school two months ago. Since then the crush has only grown. There was no way he could like a girl like me though. I was a bitch to anyone who wasn't part of the in crowd. I knew acting like that was wrong but honestly I didn't care.
