Elaine (The Academy, 16 years old)

December in Rhode Island was magical. It had a winter wonderland vibe to it. Unfortunately beautiful snow meant freezing cold temperatures. The Academy's winter ball was next week along with a Christmas.I had been adjusting to this new place in the best way I could. I made a couple of friends already. They weren't lying when they said it was a place for gifted being. The school housed paranormal creatures! After arriving and going through several tests, I found out that I was a vampire. That freaked me out for a couple of days. My best friend was a werewolf. Nothing seemed to faze me anymore.

We also got mentors when we arrived. All of the first years came around Thanksgiving and we were all starting after the new year. My mentor was basically a badass. Her name's Veronica Barnes. Her and her boyfriend were quite unusual paranormals. Something called a diamond blood vampire or diamond for short. The school itself was breathtaking. It was a gothic Victorian styled castle. Ronnie told me it was built after the American Revolutionary War. Over the past twenty years they had been upgrading everything.

Our rooms had several power outlets, a bathroom with a full tub, internet, and cable tv. Ronnie also told me since she was a diamond, she was immortal. She laughed when I gasped. She remembered what this place looked like before anything was invented.

I was sitting at my desk trying to figure out what to wear to the ball. It was like a high school prom. They told us to look our best. I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and saw Marie Skyes, my best friend and the werewolf. She seemed rather happy today.

"Hey girl!" I hugged her.

"Hey. How are you?" She asked me.

"I'm good." I told her.

"El, did you hear what the mentors were talking about last night?" She questioned.

"No." I said.

"Listen closely. They were discussing this group that sounds like it goes against what the council believes in. They talked about how they needed to find the rarest paranormal on Earth. They said he is in the United States. Apparently this guy hasn't gone through the transformation yet so he isn't aware of what he is.

"Ronnie seemed really worried about him. She said she is organizing a search party to head west. She asked me to go with her. Ellie, I'm not sure if I should go or not." She explained.

"It seems important that is guy is found. I say go." I frowned.

"What's wrong?" She touched my arm.

"The nightmares haven't gone away. I talked to Cassandra yesterday. She said they shouldn't be coming back." I sighed.

"Maybe you still have more to learn about yourself." Marie pointed out.

"That could be the case but I keep having the forest one. The tied up guy was crystal clear last night. He looked like my old crush Anthony Kron." I told her.

"Anthony Kron. That name sounds familiar. Where did you say he was again?" She drilled.

"I never told you. Marie you are scaring me." I backed out of the room.

"Tell me now!" She yelled.

I woke up drenched in cold sweat. I looked at my phone. It was only four in the afternoon. I must of fallen asleep after shopping with my mom. That nightmare was freaky. Something told me that guy and the group were very important. I needed to tell Ronnie. At the same time, she might use that information against me in the future. I groaned.

I checked my messages and saw a voicemail from Anthony. Why was he calling me? I called him back. I hoped he was okay. He answered on the second ring.
