Moon Prayer

Hushed emotions flicker as I face the moon,
and together, our light pushes
through the clouds,
and together, our light survives
in the darkness,
and the rumble beneath my skin
ebbs away.

Fading gun smoke above the mountains,
oh moon, you are the shadow
morning dares to chase
into its sun.

I imagine you burning,
the blue sky a mirror
into which you are forced to stare.

I imagine you ugly,
plagued by what you see in the light.

Nothing.

I imagine you hopeful, hoping,
as the sky turns from blue to black,
that someone sees you
in the rippling water,
that someone needs you
to find home.

That you are enough,
you are enough,
you are enough.

Even as you disappear,
asking for nothing,
yet trading energy to help
a little girl in her window
see that light can lurk in darkness, too,
you are enough.
