When they woke up Nathans' arm was wrapped around her, it made Meredith feel safe for the first time since Derek. She decided to just lay there until he woke up which felt like forever. When he woke, he saw her awake.
"You know you could've moved I would've been fine with it." He says to her
"Yeah but then you wouldn't have woken up to me are you saying you would've rather wake up alone?" she said with a smirk growing on her face
"Well no of course not, I mean why would I when I have a girlfriend as cute as you are." He answered
"Nice save," she said. He chuckled a little.They laid there a few more minutes before getting up and starting the day.
They were both downstairs when they heard Zola come downstairs "Morning mommy- Who is that?" she said pointing at Nathan
"Oh um Zola this is Nathan, he and mommy work together at the hospital," she responds hoping she wouldn't ask why he was here at 9 in the morning
"Are you a surgeon too?" She asked Nathan
"yep I'm a cardio surgeon I operate on hearts"
"Like Aunt Maggie"
"Yeah I work for your Aunt Maggie, I know all your Aunts and Uncles.
"Awesome," she said then she went upstairs to get ready for school
After Zola left Meredith turned to Nathan
"Thank you," she said
"For what?" he asked
"for saving me and going with it, It's just that Zola remembers Derek the most and I don't know how she will react to me dating you-"
"hey hey hey calm down your rambling, it's fine I get it," he said as he reaches out and grabs her hand "I'll we'll just have to ease into it. I waited for you and I can wait for Zola too"
They sat there in silence for a minute before being interrupted by the ringtone of Nathans phone it was the hospital.
"I got to go the hospital needs me urgently, I'll talk to you later ok?"
"yeah" she responded
"bye," he said. As he started to walk towards the door he heard Meredith call his name and grab his hand
"You forgot something," she said
"what I did" he responded
"Yes you did," she said slowly leaning in
"oh yes yes I did," he said finally getting the clue. He kissed her, it was quick like they've been doing it their whole lives, like a habit.
