Authors Blurb: Temperance Hall was born the daughter to a poor farmer and his seamstress wife. When her mother and two younger siblings were killed by fever and her father and older brothers by a rebel soldiers bullet, Temperance was left all alone and things went from bad to worse when she was found by a horrid man who made a habit of finding pretty young women of marrying age and marrying them to the highest bidder he could find. 

Pain, hunger and fear became the only constants in her life and Temperance had hoped that her new husband would take her away from all that--she had hoped wrong. He seemed to love causing her pain and shame in any way that he could and Temperance began to realize that only through death would she ever have any relief…

Then came the day when her husband’s brother returned home. The war was long over, but he’d fought for the confederacy and just been released from a prison camp and allowed to get back to his life. He seemed broken and it wasn’t only the injuries to his body that made him seem that way--his soul seemed just as scarred as her own. 

Temperance knows that this man, or men like him, had taken her father and brother from her, she knows that she should not desire him because he is not only her brother-in-law but blood relation to the monster she called her husband, but none of that seems to matter. 

Just as she had lost her family, was found by a slave trader and sold into marriage, she  found herself falling in love with the fallen soldier  completely against her will

Why i LOVE this story:  This story starts out sad. and i dont want to give many details thought the authors blurb is long and has alot of info to it, this story is so much more then just about a girl. Its about hope and over coming so much pain to have happiness. I relate to this story in some ways, most of them sad. But i love it. i love Temp, i love how she was beaten, hurt, R*ped, humiliated, almost killed and yet..she is still the most strong women you would EVER meet. She might not be a real person obviously. however, i can relate to her in the strong women sense. She doesn't let anything get her down, she had trouble for a while but it will all go somewhere.

Temp is superwomen.

I love this story because it is just a great one. if you haven't read it and some rather distasteful things dont bother you, then, this is the story for you.

i have to admit something though- when i was in high school i read the " child called it" series, the stories of a little boy then man, about his horrible abusive "mother". The way this man wrote you FELT like you were him. like the abuse was yours, you could taste the disgust. when his mother shoved in face into his baby siblings dirty soiled diaper i could taste the disgust in my mouth. that in a writer is something important being able to FEEL like you are that person as you read is the goal i look for. Sure it was disgusting, sure it made you feel violated, but you weren't really. But you felt like you had been there. i've been in an abusive relationship, more then once and the really bad one, even though it wasn't the same i felt like i understood.

This story "Against her will" made me feel the same way as i read throughout Temp's journey. i could feel her disgust. it might be weird it, probably is.

But, thats how i feel about it.
