Decoding Earth

Chapter four

"Can you believe it" Lizeth says "people have claimed to be abducted my aliens last night" Lizeth and I had a mutual agreement that this alien thing was a hoax, we would always joke about it. Hearing this though, means something different. I get a shiver down my spine, just like I did when I heard the creature speak.

"Wow really? obviously fake" I attempt to laugh against the emotions I'm currently feeling.

"Yeah really, look at this" She gives me her phone. It shows a news article of the story of one of the victims. Everything is the same, the description of the creatures and the syringe. I feel the hairs rise on my neck. The world is spinning but I must remain calm. 

"Listen, I have to get to class. I'll talk later" I say, trying to appear normal. I just need to sit down and collect my thoughts. This really happened, it wasn't just me. These creatures are real, are they trying to kill us? What was in that syringe? My head is spinning and my vision is blurred, I need to calm down.

I unpack my books onto the table once I sit down. The breeze coming through the window feels good against my skin, as does the morning sun. The class eventually fills up and the lesson begins. I don't listen to a word, my thoughts fill my conscience, leaving no room for more information. I'm slowly drifting off into a dream but suddenly simultaneous coughing breaks out across the classroom, everyone is gasping for air. The door slams open, so hard that the whiteboard flies of its hinges and crashes to the ground. Three men wearing protective gear and gas masks come running in, throwing gas masks to each person. I look through the window and see the same situation happening in every classroom.  I attach the gas mask even though at this point I don't seem to need it. I rush out of the classroom and down the hall. I'm following the crowd by this point. Everyones still coughing but its less intense. Why am I not coughing? Why is everyone else? I scan the heads I can see for Luna, Talon or Lizeth but I cant see them. We appear to be going into the hall. I hold the gas mask to my face to reassure myself that its on securely. Once I'm in the hall I find a seat near the wall. This is overwhelming, the sound of people coughing is coming from every direction. The front of the hall is lined with men in clothing that looks like something a swat team would wear; helmets, gun proof vests and gas masks. What is going on? Although I feel like there is no point asking that now.
