I couldn't believe my eyes. The girl I saw only yesterday, who was dressed formally and looked almost beautiful, now looked to be on the verge of death. Her hair was now down and it was an messy. The black dress she wore was now gone, replaced by rags and you could see how incredibly thin she was. The table and chairs were still there but she was laying down in a corner. When she saw us she immediately sat up and pressed herself against the wall. She had the most terrified look in her eyes.
Vivetta moved to stand in front of me, and spoke in a quiet whisper. "Now tell me does she look dangerous?"
I could only shake my head.
She let out a sigh then started to walk to the door. "Let's go."
I turned to follow her, but we were both stopped. We could hear shouting from the bottom of the stairs. I snapped out of my daze and peeked out the door. I couldn't see anything, but I could hear continued shouts and grunts. I shut the door and turned to face the others. Ariadne had her hands covering her ears and Vivetta gave me a look of concern.
"What's going on?" she asked.
"I'm not sure."
We both pressed our ears against the door and listened to the commotion. There were shouts, screams, a couple of slamming doors, and loud thuds. I looked over to Ariadne. She was making herself as small as possible and I could hear her unsteady breathing. I turned my attention back to the sounds outside, but there was nothing. It was all silent.
Vivetta and I looked at each other and backed away from the door. We stood in silence waiting for something to happen. I could swear that I heard whispering, but before I could do anything the door flung open and a boy dressed in white ran in.
In his hands were two small axes. I didn't have time to fight back before he hit me over the head with the blunt sides. I fell to the floor with a thud and watched as Vivetta tried to slap him with a red-hot hand. The boy caught her arm then kicked her in the stomach. I'd never seen Vivetta even try to use her power, let alone use it on an enemy.
I struggled to get the sword, which I always had at my side, out of its sheath. The boy merely rolled his eyes then focused one Vivetta got up and held up burring fists. Choosing to deal with me first, he came towards me with his axes held out far in front of him. I held him off for a little while, but I lost my footing when I saw a girl waltz into the room. The boy paid her no mind while she walked up to Ariadne who was cowering in the corner.
I fell to the ground after a hard blow to the head and watched as the girl grabbed Ariadne's hand and yanked her to her feet. The poor girl couldn't stand quite right. The girl grabbed Araiadne and dragged her out of the room. Vivetta slammed against the ground, and the boy ran out.
Vivetta and I scrambled to our feet and ran out of the room. The two were running down the steppes, practically carrying Ariadne. I looked to Vivetta, without a second thought she ran down the stairs, me following close behind. The stairs were littered with unconscious Ardes, but we didn't have time to help them.
When we burst out of The Tower, we could see the two criminals be joined by another boy. The boy helped with Ariadne and the group ran around The Tower. Vivetta and I followed them, my heart beating in my ears. I saw the criminals run into the skib and I couldn't help but let a smile pull on my lips. The skib was deadly for anyone who didn't know their way around. They were doomed.
Vivetta ran faster in hopes to catch them, I tried to match her. The girl who was carrying Ariadne was slowing down and the two boys were taking notice. They stayed by her side readied their weapons, the boy in white had his axes, while the other had what looked like a double-sided dagger with brood blades. Once Vivetta and I were almost right on the three we came into a clearing and the girl threw Ariadne to the ground.
The boy dressed in white brought his axes up to fight me, while the girl ripped two matching daggers from sheathes and ran to Vivetta. I saw a log nearby and before the boy could lay a finger on me I launched it at him, the perks of being a Mercis. It hit him, but that didn't seem to bug him. I held up my sword to challenge him and before we could fight I was hit in the back of the head by the other boy. I fell to the ground and the two boys started beating me, no mercy.
I saw Vivetta fall to the ground again and given a similar treatment though she seemed to be putting up more of a fight. I watched her struggle, wishing I could do something to help her but my vision faded to black before I could.
I know it's a short chapter, I'm sorry.
If you're wondering why these chapters are hardly updated, it's because my goal/limit/rule is that I have to edit two chapters of The God's Puppet Show before I can publish one chapter of The Dungeons of Savant, plus like school and stuff. Sorry again.
Thanks for reading!
