Chasing Midnight

**** What is it called when you have good luck and then it turns out to be a whole lot of bad? Karma I think? Well I have a lot of that!****

I made my way threw the crowd. My stomach had been in knots from the time I walked in the door of the ballroom that holds the once a year ball for all the coming of age wolves to find their mate. Yes, wolf you heard correctly I am a werewolf and I have not found my mate yet I would say that it sucks because I see all my friends with mates but I did it to myself by not showing up to this thing each year or even the year of my eighteenth birthday. So why am I here now making my way to the food to hide myself from the crowd is because I guess my mom the Luna is sick of me living under her roof.

'Don't you dare go to that food Natalie' , My Mom warns in our mind link.

' I can't help it something smells delicious and I have to know what it is', I explain back as I take a slice of cake into my hand.

"That is so not attractive" a voice beamed from behind me.

I rolled my eyes and groaned aloud though over the music it probably wasn't heard. Ignoring the deweb I continued to munch on my delicious slice of cake that was firmly grasped in between my figures. I'm not sure why I'm so hungry all of a sudden I just couldn't stay still and my insides were trying to tear their way out of me and the only thing I could think to calm me was all these delicious snacks that my mom and the other Luna's prepped. All of a sudden I was snatched out of my thoughts when my hand was slapped.

I gasped, 'Hey!'

Dork number two smirked, "You eat to much."

I growled at his movements as he slapped my hand again causing me to lose my grip on my cake my hands tumbled with the falling cake causing my hand to be covered in icing.

' Idiot', I mumbled as I turned around and met eyes with a smiling Best Friend.

'You three are such the loving family', My best friend pinkie laughed as she made her way to my side.

' The BEST', I reply with sarcasm.

' I thought you said you weren't coming,' she questions?

My brows go up as I give a sly smile, ' My mom wouldn't shut up.'

' Oh gotcha so nice dress by the way black looks great', she replies.

I shook my head in agreement then turned my attention back to my brothers and glared at one of my brothers and mind linked him I hope you sleep good tonight. He smirked at me with a wink and both my brothers rushed off laughing. My wolf was begging me to go to them and demand respect but I decided I wouldn't ruin my moms night after all they plan this once a year for all the upcoming werewolves to meet with the other packs and well mainly find their MATE their other HALF. Don't get me wrong I would love to find my Mate I just don't know what to expect once I do find him. It has most defiantly been quite a few years to be exact that I haven't come to one of these and my mother forced me to this one and I'm not to happy about it I mean I can't risk seeing him I C ca- woo wait a minute Uhh Again it hits ME what is that smell all my senses took in this newly found scent my heart thumped widely into my chest as I inhaled strongly while also exhaling with a sigh tingles and butterflies started turning inside my stomach.

' Do you smell that,' I asked breathless.

' I smell a lot of things', she smirked.

MATE

my wolf shouted with joy in my mind. My eyes fluttered open as I searched the dancing crowd they for some odd reason seemed to have slowed down as the music that once enveloped my hearing it to seemed to dissipate into then air. I felt nervous all of a sudden as heat rushed through out my entire body that was until my eyes met with a tall blonde headed boy who's back was turned to face me but I gasped in sheer horror at the sight before me.

"Oh shit!" I gasped.

'What is it what's wrong?!' Pinkie asked with concern.

I look at her frantically, 'I shouldn't of come here I gotta go.'

' What is it ', my best friend asked again as she grabbed my arm?

Snatching it away I respond, ' I've got to get out of here.'

"Wait what Natalie? Natalie stop wait a minute! Natalie", pinkie called out to my retreating back but I couldn't stay I couldn't now! I needed to leave with out a second thought I had picked up the bottom of my dress as good as I could and dashed for the door as my heart constricted and my inner wolf whimpered at me begging me not to leave to just stay that everything would be ok if I just went to our mate but I ignored her and turned before leaving out the door to send pinkie and apologetic smile. The moment I did I regretted it as I glanced passed her to see my Mate his head tilted to the side for some odd reason but I guess that reason was to greet my packs, pack Slut Ciara! She smiled so warmly at him making my wolf growl with jealousy. Why am I even jealous of her. He smiled warmly at her as she went in to hug him, pain shot through me seeing his reaction to her. I can't continue watching this I screamed in my head I went to turn to leave but as quickly as I did I gulped as my thoughts screamed Oh shit before I knew it I was sprinting in the parking lot running as fast as I could. 'No no no no no no', I chanted into my head as my wolf giggled 'Yes yes yes!'

'Almost there' , I mumbled out of breath as I ran to the woods. My breathing stopped as my heart pounded hard against my rib cage at hearing the sound of someone trucking it behind me.

'Damn Alpha gene', I growled in my mind.

'Wow he's so fast' my wolf moaned back in our link.

'Oh my god shut up', I snapped.

I gulped and ran faster. As I ran past a coupled the lady squeaked 'oh my gosh!' embarrassment rushed over as I continued to run like a bat out of hell.

My exist to freedom just a few feet away, but sadly I didn't make it as I felt the tingles and sparks shoot through my body as he grasped my arm during our run I felt him tug it as my breathing stopped the desire to turn around and jump him here and now was intoxicating as I yanked my arm away to put some much needed space between us as possible.

I heard him chuckle lightly as hungry anger rushed through my body Is he laughing at ME!

I kept my self turned opposite of him not sure if I could look him directly in the eyes just yet as my legs begin to feel numb and my mind began to become fuzzy at how close we were as the wind blew his delicious scent my way.

My breathing was labored as I tried to catch my breath I could feel him doing the same as his breath fanned over the back of my neck causing the hair to stand and chills rack through my interior body. Waves of electricity pulsed through my body at his very touch when I felt him grab for me again. I gulped as I felt him move in closer so his lips were just a inch away from my ear making me shutter as heat blossomed inside me.

" Natalie", that all to familiar voice spoke that sent goose pumps up and down my body.

I stayed quiet not sure my own voice could even speak with out showing signs of weakness and I can't have that I am soon to be Alpha and I can not be seen as weak when other Alpha's are around.

"I told you I knew you were my Mate", he continued, but he was wrong at the time he didn't know how could he have with out me knowing as well my anger seemed to grow stronger as I felt the sudden courage that sparked through out my body as I turned around and faced My Mate!
