Segment 4

Subsection 1

UV: Step.

F1: One.

Both: Two.

F1: Step.

UV: One. Two excellent.

F1: We shall dance, they call out to us. Look at their movements! Look at them, dancing among the gods.

Both: Step, one, two.

UV: It will not be much longer. We will dance, and I will lead.

Blake holds the sides of his head.

F1: Thi- What have you AAAHHH!!! Step, one, t- NO I- I AAAHHH!!

UV: It is almost time for the doors to open. The ballroom is almost ready. Can you hear it? The band is starting to play.

UV begins to hum.

Blake runs. The trees flying by as he charges through the forest. The trees marking the endless labyrinth of his demise.

UV: Oh much joy they will be very pleased. I have taught you to dance and you shall take your place.

Blake stops and grabs ahold of his head.

F1: No I- I can’t I mustn’t! Not this way!

UV: Maybe you can finally see. (UV laughs)

F1: Stop this, Creature. End it, end it now!

UV: Oh but I cannot. Not yet. You are not ready to take my hand in the ballroom.

F1: Kill me! KILL ME!!

UV laughs and takes control of Blake’s body.

UV: Let us walk.

F1: Why won’t you let me die? Leave my body among the trees, let me decay in peace.

F1: It will allow us to dance and sing in the finest of the ballrooms.

UV: The Child is not ready to see the Dance of the Devil. We must wait.

They walk. The end of the forest approaches. Its edge reveals an old building, burned by flames long ago, and taken back by nature.

UV: We have reached the destination you desired.

F1: This is not my home.

UV: Open the gates, walk in. There is much to do. Oh lovely day.

Blake opens what remains of the old door. He backs up.

F1: Open the door and feel the wall. The creature waits. It sits and waits for the time to come. The Walls of the Damned will come tumbling down (he snaps the door) and shatter the soul that has kept the body fresh. Walk inside and feel its sting.

He steps forward.

UV: Do you feel that?

Blake continues through what is left of the building.

UV: So exciting he will learn. He will learn! The flame will grace you. You will find the truth.

Blake walks to the stairway, his eyes foggy. He turns and looks down the hall to the left. He walks. The fireplace, turned to ash sits. What seems to be a couch is in front. He stops. He looks and he stares. His eyes burning with the passion of a life that was denied. A life once lived, a life that was his own.

The walls broken, the ash dances along the grass peacefully growing from in between the floorboards. He walks to room by room. Hearing the siren sound of the life turned to dust. So long ago, yet such a short time has passed.
