ch. 7 - sweater weather

The mission was a complete success! Now, onwards to the next step: Operation Bring-Back-The-Ac—
"Whatever you're planning, don't even think about it," Dachi said, placing a hand on my shoulder.
Chills went up my spine, and I backed away. "Psh. You're gonna love it once you hear it, captain!" I said with a mock salute. "I'm not your battle tactician for nothing!"
Right now, Nishinoya's teaching Hinata how to receive, but he's not teaching it correctly.
"So, essentially, you go 'zip,' then 'whoop,' then 'pow.' Like that." They all stared at him in confusion.
"It's no good. He can't explain it since he moves purely on instinct," Tanaka said with a sigh.
"Really? I sort of understood what he's saying," Kageyama said.
"That's because you belong to his species. When you explain something, all you say is 'pow' and 'woah' and stuff. Nobody else understands you."
I shook my head. "I understood what Noya-san said, but he needs to give concrete instructions when teaching something to Hinata. That ginger boy won't learn a damn thing if it Noya-san is using his weird gibberish lingo."
"But, you gotta admit, he's still as amazing as ever," Sugawara said.
"He said he continued training even after he got suspended," Tanaka said. "He mingled with the girl's team."
My shoulders tensed at the mention of my old team. I masked my surprise with a snarl. "Tch. Perverted Short-Stack. Death Penalty for him."
"Oh, Nishinoya-senpai, you were talking about 'Asahi-san.' Who's he?" Hinata asked.
We all paled at his reckless actions. "Hinata, you dumbass. Stop saying that name so recklessly."
Nishinoya glared at him. "He's Karasuno's ace, for what it's worth."
Hinata's face slumped to a blank stare.
"What's with the empty-headed look on your face?" Nishinoya asked.
"I...want to be the ace," Hinata replied.
"Huh? Ace? With your height?" Nishinoya paused, and I bit back a retort concerning aces with short statures. He then placed a hand on Hinata's arm. "I like you! Right? You want it because it's awesome, right? Good, good. Do it. Become the ace. You'd be far more impressive than our current ace."
I sweat-dropped at his energy.
"'Ace' has a ring to it, eh? 'Setter' and 'libero' sound boring. But, in a match, when the crowd is going crazy, even more than at an amazing spike, is when there's a super receive."
I grinned and nodded at him. Spiking is awesome, but doing a super receive is also awesome. That feeling when you thought all hope is lost, but you were able to save the ball just in time; it is one of the best feelings ever.
Nishinoya continued his cheesy, and overly dramatic, speech. He then asked, "So, ace-wannabe, what's your specialty?"
Hinata's shoulders slumped. "Decoy."
Nishinoya's eyebrows rose. "Why do you say it with such a lack of confidence?"
"Because it doesn't sound flashy like 'Ace' or 'Guardian God' or 'Silent Beast!'" My eye twitched at the mention of my nickname.
