🖤Amir p.o.v🖤

"That was uncalled for, Amir!" Silas shouts at me. I growl at him, not in the mood to hear his opinion.

"You knew how I feel about mates. I don't care if it was uncalled for!" I yell at him.

"You might not have wanted a mate, but you have one! You're lucky!! You know I've been looking for mine, and it's clear I'm not getting one. So as my best friend, get over yourself and be thankful!" He yells back. Silas wanted his mate for as long as we've known about them.

"You're going to find your mate, Silas... But I can't pretend to want this, Silas. I can't look at her and see a happy life.." I shake my head and slow my pace. "I didn't ask for one." After my parents died, I gave up and stopped believing in mates.

"BUT YOU GOT ONE!! THE MOON GODDESS GAVE YOU YOUR OTHER HALF!! BE FUCKING GRATEFUL!" He yelled at me, and I could see the tears in his eyes. "You have your mate... Someone to love you for who you are, be there for you in your darkest times and LEAD beside you forever and always... You. Are. Lucky." Silas finishes and walks away from me, tears sliding down his face.

I fucked up this time, but I can't bring myself to fix this. I know soon the mate bond will pull us together slowly but surely.

Sighing, I clear my mind and do some pack work, trying to do anything for a distraction. About 3 hours later, I get mind-linked.

'Amir, dinner is ready..' Debra's voice fills my mind. Debra is like my 2nd mother, her and her husband, Myles, took care of me when my parents died.

Myles took over the pack until I was old enough to know what I was doing and understand how vital being king was. They raised me to appreciate family and respect mate bonds, but I did not want one for myself.

Silas and his sister are lucky to have parents like them.

'Thank you, Deb; I'll be right there.' I say back.

'Oh, and son, don't forget her.' She says, then blocks me on purpose.

Sighing, I get up and go to my room, expecting to see my mate and her familiar, but I'm met with an empty room. Their scents fade ever so slowly.

I check the room beside mine, and sure enough, they are, curled up on the bed, fast asleep. The light smell of saltwater fills my scenes, making my eyebrows furrow. Had she been crying?

As if catching my scent instantly, they both pop up, Isabella with frightened sad eyes and Violet with fierce, angry ones. "Sorry... I didn't mean to scare you.." I say, and she nods and looks away. "Dinner's ready.." I say. She grabs her notebook.

'I'm not hungry, thank you, though..' She writes.

I sigh, "You need to eat.. Please.." Slowly, she nods and gets up. I stretch my hand out for her to take, and she stares at it before hesitantly taking it.

As our hands touch, I feel an electric buzz that makes me want to pull her closer and touch her more. I lead her and Violet down to the kitchen quietly.

"Dude, shut up; you're annoying!" I hear voices and laughter from the kitchen. We walk in to see Jax, Lance, Chase, TJ, Ethan, Kristina, Debra, Myles, Jasmine, and others sitting at the large table.
