Here is Chapter 4!
I climbed down into the dark abyss and I trembled as I climbed down the ladder until my feet touched the ground. Douglas followed me down after he recovered the hatch.
"Don't worry the King's men, passed on by. I think they were on their way to Hampton." Douglas reassured me as he lit the lantern.
I heard water dripping from the ceiling of the large cavern and I heard scurrying on the cave floor... Oh no, there better not be rats in here. Deep in the cave I could see a light shining at the end of the tunnel. Maybe it was an escape. We turned around the bend and I discovered something even better. A small camp appeared in front of us.
The area was guarded by several watchmen, and they greeted Douglas as we approached. The light glowed on the cavern walls and I heard footsteps echoing behind us. My eyes darted around as I shifted nervously and I went to reach for my bow. I realized that it was just footsteps of one of the soldiers. Man I'm way too jumpy.
My brother, Edward appeared from inside of one of the tents and looked at me quizzically.
"Edward, It's me, Eleanor." I said. "Don't you remember me?"
After a few seconds he ran up to me and gave me a hug while saying, "You're- you're alive. I thought no one survived the fire." Then he paused and asked, "Did you see if mother escaped?"
"I couldn't find her so I just kept on running, I'm sorry." I replied.
One of the soldier's coughed behind us, and Edward said, "Oh! Let me introduce you to my men. This is Leonardo my right-hand man" He said as the redhead looked up from his work.
"And this is my left-hand man Louis." my brother explained as he introduced me to the man who had interrupted our reunion.
"My Lord, the King's men have been spotted in the forest so we might was to relocate." Douglas informed Edward. The two men continued the conversation as I started looking around. I noticed that several men were aimlessly milling around, while others were sparring or doing chores. And I also noticed something else that was strange, I was the only woman here. I began once agian eves dropping on the conversation.
"If they find this camp, we will all be hanged." Edward said.
I quizzically wondered why this would ever happen to my dear brother. "Why would we be hanged Edward. We didn't do anything wrong." I questioned.
"You didn't tell her Douglas?" Ed asked.
"No, was I supposed to?" Douglas replied.
"Welcome to the Revolution, Eleanor." my brother said as my jaw dropped.
I never thought that he would be involved in this. Let alone me being dragged into this nonsense also...
Hey guys I hope you like this so far! What direction would you like to see this story go? What do you think about the revolution? Should Eleanor leave her brother in search of safer harbors or will she end up fighting along side him and fall for one of those handsome knights?
