In a town like Hawkins, Heather Gilmore never expected anything to go wrong. She led a quiet, small town life, one that was never riddled with the horrors that seemed to happen far too often in the big cities. Before the sixth of November in 1983, Heather's biggest source of stress was passing chemistry ... and her mother's tendency to be a tad scatterbrained as well as a little overbearing at the same time ... and that her dad was a deadbeat who left quicker than if someone had lit a fire under his ass ... and the fact that her uncle was still going through his extremely rough patch ... and the fact that the guy who she was sorta kinda into had colossal assholes for friends. Hawkins wasn't a picture perfect town, but it wasn't the place that tragedies struck.
After the sixth of November in 1983, though, it was clear to see that Heather had missed the terrors that lurked in the shadows, the skeletons the town seemed to have in its closet. She hadn't noticed that the town was like a tank of gasoline, waiting for someone to strike a match. But eventually, the fire was bound to start, whether anyone noticed the strange things of the town or not. It started with the disappearance of Will Byers, a quiet middle school boy that Heather knew through her best friend's little brother. One night he had been playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends before biking home just like normal ... and the next morning, instead of his face being present in his house, in school, it was being taped onto a missing persons poster. A missing persons poster that spurred from a declined lift home. A missing persons poster that, if she had tried hard enough, Heather might have been able to prevent from being needed.
And after Will came the vanishing of Barbara Holland, one of Heather's best friends in the entire world. A nightmare that evolved from a small, drunken, fight filled party gone oh so terribly wrong. Again, yet another missing persons poster that Heather Gilmore couldn't help but feel as if was her fault, that the disappearance was on her hands. These were the things that hung over Heather's heads in the coming weeks, things that the blonde girl was trying so desperately to turn around. Her town was turning to shit with a simple blink of her eyes, crumbling before her and tearing right at the seams.
So if turning things around and righting her wrongs meant teaming up with her remaining best friend and the kid who seemed to have a camera permanently glued to his side, then so be it. Because it was clear to see that Hawkins was no longer the somewhat perfect, quiet little small town. In fact, it seemed that Hawkins was shaping up to be the mouth of hell and if Heather and the others didn't do something about it ... well then hell was going to swallow them whole.

author's note: Dedicated to Lucy (and Kayla because she threatened me), because this is 110% her fault. Her Steve fic (which is brilliant in every sense of the word btw) has reignited my absolute adoration of Steve Harrington and then bingo, bango, here we are with a new fic. But nonetheless, I'm sort of really excited because I love Stranger Things a whole bunch and for some reason, I feel a lot more confident with this fic than I did with my last one so hopefully Gasoline will thrive where Lost Boy did not.
Also, if you're looking for a shit storm of romance and mushy love interest related scenes, this probably won't be the story for you. Like, I'm a hoe for a good romance and I'm going to try and incorporate Steve as much as the story line allows. Blame the Duffer Brothers for Steve being rather scarce in season one (except don't because the trailers for s2 are making it seem like he's going to be very very involved, like god bless the Duffer Brothers, honestly).
Also, if you caught the Heathers references and the somewhat BtVS reference, I love you lots.
