"You're more like them than you know. In time you'll come to see just how much." -Remus Lupin
-------------------------------------------------------
I was bored. Very bored. I had spent most of my day sitting around. Uncle Remus (what I decided to call him) was reading a newspaper. It said The Daily something on the front. I couldn't read it. I had millions of questions in my head, about my parents, him, magic, etc. Although Uncle Remus seemed nice, I didn't want to push my luck. If there was one thing I learned from my Aunt and Uncle, it was to not ask questions.
Every conversation went like this:
"What happened to my parents?"
"They died in a car crash. Now don't ask questions!"
"Where are we going?"
"I said don't ask questions!"
Uncle Remus finally spoke up. "Cindy? Are you bored?" I nodded timidly. "Oh, I'm sorry, you didn't say anything. What would you like to do?" I shrugged. "How about I answer your questions? I'm sure you have some."
"I can ask questions?"
"Of course!" He looked shocked. "Why would you think otherwise?"
"It's just, Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia always yelled at me whenever I asked questions." I replied timidly.
Uncle Remus looked very angry at this. "After all these years, you'd think that they'd learn to solve their issues or at least keep the children out of it." He muttered. Then he turned to me. "You're always welcome to ask questions here. And if for some reason, I cannot answer them, I will explain why." He smiled warmly at me.
"Ok, umm-can you tell me how you know my parents?" I smiled in return.
He smiled fondly, as if remembering something. "Your dad was one of my best friends. To tell you the truth, I'm a werewolf."
I gasped. "But how?"
His smiled turned bitter. "I was bitten by one as a child. Your father found out and didn't run away. He helped me in ways I can never repay. He became one of my best friends shortly. Your mum was the kindest woman I ever knew. She was there for me when no one was. Taking care of you is the least I can do for them. You resemble them in more ways than you realize."
I smiled. "What happened to them?"
"I cannot explain that to you right now. You are only four. But I can tell you that your parents loved you and Harry more than anything. They sacrificed themselves to keep you two alive." I frowned at this. What did he mean by that? Maybe they protected us in the crash?
He continued. "Lily and James loved you two. They knew they would probably not survive, but they wanted to give you two the best. Lily would be so happy to see you now. James would be proud. You're so strong even after all that's happened. I know it hasn't been easy for you. They might not physically be with you, but you can feel them with every step you take. I know they would have given anything to be able to see you two grow up. Just know that they loved you and still do. Don't forget that."
My eyes watered. I started sobbing uncontrollably for the first time in years. They loved me. They really did. Mum. Dad. Those words sounded foreign. I missed them. Sometimes I felt like I could faintly remember dad swinging me in the air and mum whispering to me over my crib of how much she loved me.
Uncle Remus walked over and pulled me in a embrace. For some strange reason I felt safe and warm. I welcomed the feeling and relaxed in his arms. I could feel wetness on my hair and I realized he was crying too.
We remained like that for a while. After a few minutes we pulled apart. Uncle Remus wiped his red eyes on his sleeves. "I'm sorry, Cindy. It's just that you remind me so much of James and Lily."
I offered him a watery smile. "Thanks. I never knew my parents loved us so much."
He smiled warmly. "No problem."
I hesitated. "Can you tell me why my godfather hates me so much?"
He hesitated before answering. "He doesn't hate you, sweetheart. He hated your dad. You dad made his life miserable at school. He is also a little bitter because your mum and him were best friends, but he made a mistake that your mum couldn't forgive."
I nodded in understanding. That made sense. He stood up suddenly. "I'll go make dinner. And Cindy? Never be afraid to ask questions."
I smiled. I felt happy. It felt good to be at a place you can call home.

The next few days passed by fast. I loved staying with Uncle Remus. He was like a father figure. It was Thursday though. One and a half day left. I groaned. I stood up and went in the kitchen for breakfast. I saw Uncle Remus sitting at the table. "Help yourself."
I sat down on my chair and ate. This was the best week of my life that I could recall. The weekend would go by eventually. It would feel like forever though. I sighed. One and a half days left.
