"Reading? I didn't know you could read." -Draco Malfoy

People thought Father had lost his mind, especially Fred and George. They had seen him carrying me to the common room and putting me down in an armchair, glaring at anyone who had dared to glance our way. I kept to my word and finished that assignment. I was in the library reading my charms book when Hermione came storming in. She threw a gigantic book on the table, narrowly missing my fingertips. "I found it!" Madam Pince glared at her. "I didn't think it would be in here, I got this a few weeks ago for a bit of light reading." Ron and Harry appeared beside me.
"Light?" Hermione glared at him.
"Here it is! Nicolas Flamel is the only known maker of the philosopher's stone!"
"Of the what?" Madam Pince gave us yet another annoyed look.
"Honestly, don't you three read?" She proceeded to read from the book. "The ancient study of alchemy is concerned with making the Philosopher's Stone, a legendary substance with astonishing powers. The Stone will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal."
"Immortal?"
"That means you never die." Hermione glanced up.
"I know what it means!" Harry shushed them.
"There have been many reports of the Philosopher's Stone over the centuries, but the only Stone currently in existence belongs to Mr Nicolas Flamel, the noted alchemist and opera-lover. Mr Flamel, who celebrated his six hundred and sixty-fifth birthday last year, enjoys a quiet life in Devon with his wife, Perenelle (six hundred and fifty-eight).
"A stone that makes you immortal and turns metal to gold, no wonder Snape wants it, anyone would!"
"I told you it wasn't him!" Ron and I glared at each other.
"Besides, he's so bitter, why would he want to live longer?" I turned to glare at Harry and he covered his mouth apologetically. "Sorry, Cin, couldn't resist." I turned back to Hermione.
"So..."
"That's what the dog's guarding, that's what Snape wants! The philosopher's stone!" Hermione states knowingly. I groaned internally. Earlier, Ron did have a point though, who wouldn't want it? So it could be anyone.

Hermione nudged me. I glanced at her. She motioned towards the front. Professor McGonagall looked at me expectantly. "Yes, Professor?" She sighed.
"I said, what is the spell for turning a mouse to a Snuffbox?"
"I don't know, Professor." She sent me a stern look.
"You'd better pay attention then. This will be on your exam at the end of the year!" I nodded. Professor McGonagall resumed talking. I groaned. Five more hours.
