the observer

Sitting at the back of the class gives me the privilege to observe the class I'm really in.

I look to my right and I see the noisy people clustered together. As they talked, their volume increased. Slowly, I saw the teacher nearing them and telling them to be quiet.

To my left, I see everyone's eyes glued to their gadgets. It's as if they got married to their iPads, laptops, and what not.

I look at the people in my area. They're like a combination of both. Equally noisy, equally quiet.

Then, there's me.

Writing this as the rest of the class does their own thing.

Then I realize, I see my friends in the noisy cluster.

I see my friends' attention glued to their gadgets.

I see my friends doing both.

And there's me.

Just me.
