Neku and Shiki had already made their way out of the Udagawa Back Streets as I was left standing there for a moment, trying to recollect my thoughts and brush away the heavy feeling in my gut.
I bit my lip as I felt like I could've done something more only moments ago when it was just two people standing in front of the CAT mural, instead of three.
I rested a hand on my forehead. "I'm so stupid... Who am I fooling? Am I really ready for this?"
As I turned to follow Neku and not leave them hanging, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the glint of a small object at the base of the CAT mural. With steady steps, I made my way towards the mural and knelt down next to it, reaching out my hand towards it, letting my fingers brush past a smooth surface. I brought the pin up to my face examining the unusual pin, which I had never seen of before. I had ruled out the thought of a Reaper having left it here, since no one had mentioned a pin like this one and news spreads through the UG like wildfire. Unlike regular pins that all had some kind of color or design on them, this one was completely see through, clear as water.
Standing up, I held it out in front of me, peering through it as I held it in front of the sun, looking at the multitude of colors shining down from the small pin. Who knew that one pin could look so beautiful. I brought it closer to my face to thoroughly observe it. As I peered through it's clear surface I could see Noise swimming around, minding their own business from what it seemed, just floating around in the UG. However, they weren't there for no reason from what it seemed. The Noise seemed to be circling around a figure clad in white as feathery wings covered their back that was turned towards me. Slowly, the white on their wings faded away as a dark substance grew at their feet, as the feathers grew black as night. The figure turned towards me revealing themselves to be a guy, much older than me, with jet black hair and emerald eyes. His lips curled into a sinister smirk as swirls of white and black surrounded him as he vanished in a blinding light, leaving the Noise to scatter in all directions.
Stumbling backwards, the pin fell from my loose grasp and hit the ground with a small clang!
What the hell...?
No Reaper in the UG had wings like theirs and the only 'logical' explanation I could come up with was that they were some kind of Angel. But the typical story showed Angels as having white wings, not like the ones I just witnessed.
Even so, why did he seem so familiar?
I felt like I should know him from somewhere but my mind drew a blank. Maybe there was someone in Shibuya who looked like him.
A sudden sharp of pain passed through my head as I groaned and grabbed it with both hands, kneeling down as I did so.
My head... It hurts so much...
My vision blurred as a sick feeling began to bubble in my stomach as I fell to my knees next to the pin which glared at me in the sunlight. My head pounded as I felt nauseous until I felt someone place their hand on my shoulder.
"(Y/n)? (Y/n) are you feeling OK?" I barely heard Neku's voice when he spoke. He knelt down next to me and brushed a strand of my hair out of my face. A bead of sweat ran down my forehead. Hadn't he gone ahead and walked with Shiki towards the cafe they had mentioned? "(Y/n), please, say something."
"U-Ugh...," I mumbled. The pain in my head had subsided and I reached out for the pin. "W-What was that?"
"What was what?" Neku asked, his eyes trained on the clear pin in my hand. "A pin from the UG? I've never seen that one before."
