"That's why I'm gonna marry her."

The ballpoint Sasuke had played with fell with an audible thud into the carpet. His mind went frozen abruptly right after Naruto's declaration.

"I'm going to marry her next month. The wedding will be simple, because it was planned within a short amount of time and, yeah, my current finance won't be enough to hold an expensive and massive party. I think I need to tell you," Naruto explained.

Sasuke turned his body around, behaving as if the other person had been standing in the middle of the same room. "Wai—wait, what do you mean you gotta marry Hinata, Naruto?" Sasuke asked perplexedly.

'What the hell do you mean, Naruto? What's the purpose of all this?!' his inside screamed, confused beyond control.

There was a small laughter at the end of the line. "C'mon, teme. You still don't get it? I gotta marry her because I'm being responsible to my deed of course. Heh, is that genius brain of yours has started to dull now, Sasuke?" Naruto said with a light joke on his tone.

One second passed by in silence, before Sasuke spoke up with a whisper, "Why?"

"Ah, I'm sorry for not telling you earlier. I'm so busy these days. Forgive me, 'kay, Sasuke," said Naruto apologetically.

However, Naruto had misinterpreted his childhood bestfriend. Sasuke's frozen heart had just cracked after the last confession. Many thoughts had appeared before on Uchiha Sasuke, that he had accepted all the bitter reality that Uzumaki Naruto could never belong to his fate. That whomever Naruto would be sharing his life with, he would be there and smile for him like a nice bestfriend he was ought to be.

But without warning, that news was delivered to him so suddenly and with the scenario he would have never thought of ever before. A single plot too cruel for him to be reality. A tragedy in his life story that perhaps was being considered as an anecdote by The Fate itself.

"—ext week. I will send it later to your house. Ah, I think I gotta go now. Hinata is calling me. See you then, Sasuke," Naruto said briefly before his voice was replaced by stillness.

Sasuke lowered his phone slowly. His head was hanging low, his shoulders drooping due to an invicible lead. His emotions were swirling around deep remorse and the valley of poignancy.

He knew that he wasn't supposed to feel sad. He knew very well that he shouldn't be mad. His wishful thinking to reach the man had been fleeting away completely ever since his betrothal had been decided. There wasn't anything he could do as opposed to the matter. But that certain feeling apparently stayed stubbornly and refused to be erased, even after lost contact for months. It was the kind of emotion that had been planted and rooted deep down to the very core since many years ago. By this point, it was impossible for him to pull the root out of his heart; a feeling too complicated and way too deep to the point of no return.

A feeling that failed to bring him happiness when the others were enjoying it.

A drop of emotion that gave him the whole buds of torment when the others were in earthly bliss.

The familiar pain and ache that greeted him back after long trial of moving on. Nothing was left of him but limitless void.
