"Adonis..." she pronounced my name, "Did you know he's a Greek God of beauty and desire?"

I looked into her eyes and smirked, "Well, I'm nothing like a God. I'm actually the complete opposite of one..."

I looked down at the grass we were sitting on and sighed.  "You shouldn't be around me."

Sage furrowed her eyebrows as her smile faded. "You've told me that so many times, but I never listen. You don't get to tell me what I choose to be around," she scoffed.

"Sage, please...I'm not the person you want to be involved with, and I don't want you to learn that the hard way," I argued. I watched as she lowered her head and stared beneath her, defeated. It pained me to be so stern with her, but I need her to be safe.

I'm not safe. I'm not good. The best thing for me to do is to leave her.

Sage's eyes lifted to meet mine again, but this time they were glassy. "Why can't you just accept the fact that I'm willing to take a risk? Can you at least give me an explanation of why I shouldn't be with you? Throughout all these months we've been together, you've always refused to tell me why!" her voice cracked as she begged for answers.

My eyes were glued to the ground, refusing to meet her gaze.

"Adonis...Why?" She pleaded. "What are you hiding?"

"The less you know about what I'm involved in, the safer you are," I sighed as I got up and walked over to my car. If I looked back, the pain would've been worse.

_____

Speeding down the highway, I locked my eyes on the black sedan that was a few cars ahead of me. I grabbed my phone and managed to find my associate's name in my contacts.

"I'm trailing right behind him Don..." He immediately picks up the phone.

"Cade, you better lead him into a less populated area. We don't need an audience. You hear me?" I ordered my associate on the phone.

"Yes Don...he's heading towards the road. Julian's already waiting on the road so he can block him off." Cade replied.

"Perfect. Your guns better be loaded. You're gonna need them." I conclude the phone call.

Just as the sedan made a right into the less populated road, I reached out the window with my gun and aimed low. I released a few bullets, until the tire burst causing the target to finally halt.

Suddenly, Cade rams his car into the driver's side of the sedan, crushing both the metal and the driver. He then brings his car to reverse, allowing me access to the driver's door. I rush out of my vehicle and swing the dismantled door open.

I'm met with a bloodied man, groaning in pain.

"I don't have time for bullshit. Give me my money and my guns. I know your guys stole them!" I waste no time to make my demands.

The bloodied driver smirks back at me, "You can't kill me the same way your father was killed -" Before he could finish his sentence, my fist collides to his jaw and nose continuously until he is unconscious.

"Julian, take him to headquarters. Keep him alive, but get some answers from him. Cade, I need you search his vehicle for arms, cash, and dope. We need to take back our stolen shipment," I ordered.

"Now I need everyone to stay on high alert. This piece of shit right here is the Underboss of the Rios gang. They're gonna try to retaliate, so we'll need strict security and loaded guns." I commanded as I glanced at the limp body in the driver's seat.

"Yes Don," they answered in unison.
