The guard sprinted through the marble corridor, his footsteps echoing loudly. He bolted up stairs and through doors, until he stood before the grand princess at her throne.

The guard put his hands on his knees and tried to catch his breath; Zelda attempted to hide her alarm. "What is your business here, sir?"

"Qu-queen..." He pulled an envelope from his belt. "Th-this is... for you." He was still breathing heavily.

Zelda took the square, pale yellow envelope from him and carefully opened it. The parchment inside was high-quality and like felt. The writing was rushed and worried.

Zelda
Ganondorf has escaped death yet again. I fear that Link is in trouble. Please do all that you can to ensure his safety, and if the unthinkable happens, you are the only one I trust to save our hero.

Zelda stared at the note in shock. It wasn't signed and the handwriting was unfamiliar, and Zelda wondered if she should trust it. There weren't many people that knew of Ganondorf--most of the people of Hyrule knew only Zant as far as usurper kings. Zant was a member of the Twili, the inhabitants of the Twilight Realm. He lusted to become their ruler, but when Midna was chosen instead, Ganondorf and Zant joined forces to take over both the Twilight Realm and the Light World--except Ganondorf was only using Zant as a puppet as sorts, hiding behind him and controlling him while taking both worlds for himself.

"Queen Zelda!" One of the guards called out as Zelda started running to the first floor, slipping through doorways and taking steps two at a time.

Guard after guard watched in confusion at the queen sprinting through the hallways. Occasionally, one would ask if she was alright, to which she would yell out to not worry.

She finally reached the ground floor and turned a corner to the large chancellery.

"Chancellor!"

"Queen? Is everything alright?" The chancellor was short and a bit plump, wearing gold and red clothing that signified his high placement in the Hyrulean government.

"I must ask a favor of you. I need you to help me with a quest, one that the fate of Hyrule depends upon."

"What do you mean, Zelda?"

"Link may be in danger; I received this note," she handed him the parchment and he read through the letter. "And I can sense evil has returned to my country. Something terrible is to come and I need to stop it."

The chancellor looked unsure. "But, queen, you cannot send our knights to aid the hero? Why must you leave the castle? We have no one else as fit as you to rule this country!"

"I am the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom; I know in my heart that I am the one who must go on this journey. I ask that you give me blessings and luck* on my endeavor."

The chancellor sighed. "Well, queen, I am not in the proper position to keep you in the castle. But I must let you know, we aren't properly equipped for a quest such as this. You will require at least some armor and a blade, and preferably also a bow, a shield, and some bombs."

Zelda nodded. "Can you recommend a place where I can get such items?"

"I only know of where you can get bombs and a shield--there is a shop called Malo Mart in Castle Town with those and other helpful items such as potions and arrows."

"Thank you, chancellor. Your help and insight will be invaluable."

"It is my pleasure to help you in what you believe is right, queen. But I must also give you something that will aid you and prove a great contribution to the success in your adventure. Tristam?"

"Yes, chancellor?" A small voice came from the small lounge room connected to the chancellery. A small, purple-blue fairy, just an indigo ball of light that would fit in Zelda's hand with translucent wings came rushing in.

"Tristam, I have an important job for you. Queen Zelda is embarking on an important journey and I need you to be her companion."

"Why, Queen Zelda, it would be an honor!" He jumped up and down in the air to show his excitement.

Zelda smiled, watching the fairy she had known for years but never became acquainted with. There were a few fairies in the castle but she was never allowed to play with them. "It is my pleasure, Tristam. I look forward to your company."

*A/N: just wanted to let you know that my phone auto-corrected 'luck' to 'lunch' and I laughed. A lot. 'I ask that you give me blessings and lunch." Lol.
