The Incident

Despite this being her fifth ride home, Lily could easily say that this one was the worst, the most solitary. “The Incident” was still fresh on her mind, and she chose to ride in the car alone, except for the nine times James had come in to apologize. Pleading apologies, and promises to “break Snape’s nose so much it would go straight”. Each time she would just stare out the window at the passing scenery - not really ignoring him, but not listening either. On the ninth apology - this one vowing vengeance so brutal his children would regret it - she turned to him and said, “That’s not really necessary, Potter.”

James looked at her in shock. She had said something. Did she forgive him? Rubibng the back of his neck, he asked, “See you on the platform then?”

“Sure, Potter.” Her gaze had returned to the window.
