The Arab Spring

At first there was nothing,

Just lies and fear.

Leaders can’t be trusted,

When double-crossed.

May twenty-eleven,

The line was laid.

The first domino fell,

Little was saved.

Loud Bangs, Crashes and Bombs,

The land is torn.

Children scared to silence,

Their faces worn.

Freedom from dictators,

That’s all they want.

Their kids to be happy,

Instead of gaunt.

Some leaders have fallen,

They’ll retire.

Democracy has spread,

Like a gold fire.

Fire, guns and violence,

There’s always fear.

Like ice melting to water,

Freedom is near.

Europe is on their side,

Clearing the skies.

Keeping the people safe,

From their demise.

The battle is not won,

Children won’t sing.

The light of hope is there,

The Arab spring.
