I moan against him and his breath washes over my face. He releases my lips and he moves his face down to meet my neck. I feel his lips on my skin, sucking and pecking along the tendons. I can feel heat waves emanating off his body and they envelop me. I let myself go as he returns to my lips, kissing me like he can't get enough. I struggle to keep up, as I am inexperienced. He pauses and sighs against me, pressing me back into the shelves.
"You are amazing."
His voice shocks me and I search my mind for a retort. Not able to find one, I mash my lips against his. His knee presses into the gash on my leg and I cry out, dropping to the floor. I clutch the skin and see his legs bend.
He scoops me into his arms and kicks open the door. My hands twist the front of his shirt as pain shoots through my limbs. I lean into his chest and I sniff. His scent washes over me, a mixture of cherry blossoms and soap. I close my eyes as he turns the corner into the infirmary.
He lies my body down on our cot and calls for a nurse. One dashes into the room and she stands at my bedside, gazing at me. I drift into sleep as she treats the wound, Koa holding my hand. I wake to lips against mine and I shudder with happiness.
My eyes flutter open and Koa retreats, holding his face an inch above mine. I push him back and sit up, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. He helps me to standing and we limp out of the room. I lean on him and he holds me steady as we walk into the cafeteria. I grab a muffin dotted with chocolate chips and a small coffee drenched with cream and sugar. Koa grabs the same and whispers to me.
"Is this the only edible food here?"
I giggle and we sit down at a plastic table framed by red booths. I gobble down the muffin and take a sip of the dark substance in my cup. I spit the liquid back into the cup and gag, grabbing Koa's muffin and shoving it down my throat. He stares at me and I blush. He takes a napkin and wipes up the remaining crumbs of the pastry off my cheeks, which burn with embarrassment. He laughs whole-heartedly and lowers his voice.
"Apparently not."
I clear my throat and slap my chest to get the last of the hurriedly eaten muffin down my throat.
"I am so sorry, and embarrassed."
He taps a finger on his chin and pretends to be contemplating.
"Well, I think a good compensation would be giving me a taste."
Confusion flickers across my face and is laced in my voice.
"Huh?"
He slaps his forehead and leans across the table to peck my lips.
"Oh."
I smile and giggle, feeling incredibly stupid.
"I am sorry to end this happy moment, but we should probably leave here now, I was looking into some stuff while you were asleep. This is a group of rebels against the city and they don't have a great view on Demons. In fact, this is the group of rebels that killed most of them."
"Well I don't blame them."
"Anyway, I've concluded that there's mainland a while away, but we can only get there by boat."
"Then we have to steal a boat?"
"Basically yeah, along with other supplies."
"Do you know how to work a boat?"
"Not exactly, but we can figure it out together. I also found a Sealer. It's on the way."
"I'm not exactly sure that I... want to seal it away."
He looks at me in disbelief, and a surge of panic washes over me.
"You don't want to get rid of that crazy demon inside you?"
"Well, I have one of the most powerful demons of all time, I don't think it can even be sealed away."
"Don't you even want to try?"
"I don't really know. Look, without this demon, I am nothing. I am special in no way. This demon makes me powerful. I want to tame it and use it for good."
"Do you know how many people have tried to do that? And died trying?"
"Well maybe I will be the first to suceed."
"You are crazy! No one can do that let alone you."
"What is that supposed to mean?!"
We're standing now, so close our foreheads are almost touching. My hands are clenched into fists and I am breathing hard.
"You.. well look at you."
He stands back and gestures at me.
"Are you saying that I am weak? I could snap you like a twig you imbecile!"
"See? That's the demon talking."
"No it's not!"
I feel a scream rip out of my throat and I feel a wave of rage pass over me.
"You are being unreasonable."
"No I am not. You are being an asshole."
"I am trying to help you!"
"No you aren't, you are trying to tell me how to live my life!"
The empty cafeteria reverberates with our yells and I slam my foot into the ground.
"You're right! Cause I know how you can fix this evil."
"That 'evil' is a part of me!"
"No it isn't"
His voice softens and he shrinks back against the wall.
"That evil is a part of you, yes, but it ws forced upon you and everyone, everything around you would be safer if you got rid of it."
"You just don't get it do you?"
"No I don't understand why you want to be a monster."
"Oh that's it."
I think about planting a fist in that smug face of his, but decide against it for it would just prove his point. Instead, I turn on my heel and stalk out of the room, slamming the door and walking blindly through the empty halls. Tears prick my eyes as I think of how he called me a monster and I turn a corner, crashing into a girl smaller than me. She looks at me, smiling. I seem to recognize her but I don't know how exactly. She speaks in a small sweet voice.
"Why are you crying mommy?"
