Chapter 4: Premonition

That has been the longest flight I've ever been in. I could finally stretch my back! Now, I've got to find Demmi. After I claimed by baggage, I went straight out of the airport trying to find Emmi or some sort of poster with my name on. Ah, there she is!

"HI!"

"Hey! How was your flight? Are you hungry?"

"It was fine. No, I'm good. Thanks. Just a little tired, though."

"Let's go straight home, then so you can rest!" Demmi said with a smile.

"Hey Demmi. I just wanna thank you for helping me with all this and for letting me stay at your home temporarily. I promise I'm gonna pay you back when I get a stable job here."

"No worries! You've helped me as well when I was in college by letting me ride with you home. So, you don't have to pay me back. And besides, our families are friends. Thus, you're my friend, too!"

"Well, thanks a lot Demmi! I really appreciate this."

"You are most welcome! Let's go?"

"Yup. Let's!"

It actually took almost a year before I could fly half way across the world. We needed to prepare the documents and you know, my mom got a little sentimental so I gave it a few months for her adjustment. Anyway, it was a long ride back to her place but it was bearable than the flight. An hour later, we arrived at her place. It's this cute two story house. And you can see that it's well kept. Everything is so clean. She led me into the guest bedroom upstairs and handed me towels.

"Charlie, if you need anything don't be shy to ask me okay? And are you sure you're not hungry?"

"I'm fine, Demmi. Thanks!"

"Okay, then. Take a rest now and the day after tomorrow I will bring you to the hospital for the interview."

"I'm not prepared for an interview, but okay! I will. Good night!"

"Oh you know. It's just for formality. I know somebody in the HR so you have nothing to worry about! Okay, good night to you too!"

I nodded and then she went out and shut the door behind her. This is one cozy bedroom. But I should get use to this kind of weather. Good thing my mom had a good stack of sweaters at home. So, am I ready to face this new life? I have no choice, I guess. I'm already here.

This house smells like cinnamon, though. But I need to find a new apartment for myself. I can't rely on her living in this house. But where to start? Maybe I should look somewhere near the hospital. So, I set my alarm to...oh, crap. I forgot to sync my watch with the new time...aaand she has a wall clock in this room. Why did I have to count? Oh well. Maybe I should quit thinking a lot already. It's tiring as hell. Sleepy time.

I woke up and found a note from Demmi.

"Good morning! Sorry I can't be with you all day today cause of you know, work. But I'll be home before dinner. You can help yourself with whatever you find in the fridge. See you later!"

She's so kind to still leave a note. I decided to roam around the house for a bit before I went to the kitchen and eat. I bet she's getting ready for her future family because of all the neutral colors in this house.

I went in to the kitchen and opened the fridge. I didn't want to rummage through everything in it so I think eggs and bread is enough for breakfast.

While eating, I decided to open my laptop and write an email back home. If I use iMessage, they'll surely bombard me with questions. But I'm not ready to answer everything, so email it is! This is one lonely house by the way. She probably doesn't stay home a lot. I have a few bucks my parents gave me so maybe I could explore the sights later. I couldn't stay in here without anyone to talk to. But I think I should get used to living like this as well because after I find an apartment, I'd be pretty much living the same lifestyle as hers.

I did have a strange dream last night. I was too tired to be dreaming so that's why maybe it was so blurry. Everything was vague. All I can recall is people, booze, and loud music. I think it was a party at some house. But I can't picture how it exactly looks like. Ironically, I don't see me in the real world partying any time soon.
