The game started and as always, Mike was playing very well. Half time came and I wanted a refill on my Dr. Pepper, so I asked Kyle if he wanted to come with me, then we both headed back down to the concession stands. When we were back on the ground, we walked close to the field to head to the concession stands. As we were walking, I heard his husky voice call my name and I felt a shiver go down my entire back.
"Lowry." He always called me by my last name, and I had no idea why, so I also started calling him by his last name. "What are you doing here?" He said.
"I'll go wait in line." Kyle said and took my cup from me.
"Well, I certainly did not come to see you, so don't start acting like you are all special." I said to him.
"Well, who did you come see then?" He asked. Why was he interested?
"Why so many questions? Why do you care?" I asked him.
"I don't, I just didn't like seeing your face. You threw me off while I was playing." He shrugged.
"Well, don't focus on me then. There is a lot of people, I am sure you can just pretend I am not even here. Why don't you focus on the cheerleaders? You always have." I said to him.
"Little kitty, are you jealous?" He smirked, calling by the nickname he invented for me. I had no idea why he called me that.
"Don't call me that." I said frustrated. "And I am not jealous. Who would I be jealous of?" I said to him.
"I don't know, you tell me, little kitty." He shrugged, calling me once again by the nickname I told him not to call me.
"You are so annoying." I said to him.
"And you are not?" He asked and smirked once again.
I only huffed and left him standing there. I walked towards where Kyle was standing in line, and crossed my arms over my chest.
"What did he want?" Kyle asked. He knew Mike and I did not get along.
"To bother me, like always." I said. Kyle never saw an ugly banter between Mike and I, sit didn't really bother him that much. I think he only thought it was like a sibling banter and that's all, but he was far from right.
"Just to think about him, and don't let his words bother you." He said as he gave me a sideways hug.
"Yeah. Let's just forget about him." I said and continued to stand in line.
A few minutes later, we headed back to the bleachers where Kara was furiously texting. Then the game continued. When it was over I was glad to leave, but Kara stopped me.
"Hey, Mike said to wait for him. He didn't bring his car and he wants to ride with us." She said.
"Oh, ok." I said. I didn't really want to go in the same car with him, but I didn't have a choice, I had come with Kara after all.
"Hey, I have to go meet my mom, I promised her. But I'll see you at the party." He said.
"Kyle, if you have to meet your mom, don't worry about me. You don't have to go to the party just because of me. Go and be with your mom." I told him. His mom was suffering from lupus, and she was currently in the hospital.
"But I don't want you to be alone." He told me.
"Kyle, right now your mom is more important than I am. I'll be fine. I'll spend the night outside or on the roof or Mike's room, if I have to, which he never notices, but I am not going to force you to go to the party just to keep me company. Go and be with your mom, I'll see you tomorrow for lunch, okay?" I said. I wasn't about to pull some guy away from his sick mother, she needed him more than anything right now.
