Part of, no, the Entire reason I wach anime is became of other people. My dad showed me shows like Pokemon, Dragonball, Dragonball Z, etc, when I was a kid, and then shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and Inuyasha when I was older. (btw, Inuyasha is cool in story and concept, but has very inappropriate content, so don't recommend it at all) Also, when I was about 14, two of my friends got me into waching Sword Art Online, which is the first Anime I know I've seen every episode of, and the first watched knowing it was anime. Now most of my friends and I all wach anime. And my Dad and I still talk about and suggest different shows to each other, and even wach them togeather. Most of my favorite YouTubers Wach and shair interest in anime as well. The people in my life have hellped shape me into who I am, and one way is through anime lol :)
