My hometown of Girard, Ohio is usually quiet. No major crimes have been happening, except maybe a robbery or drug bust here and there. But last night, October 21, 2017, a shooting happened on the other side of town from where I live. Girard PD was responding to a call of a possible suicide attempt. Two officers responded to the call. When one of the officer was talking to the suspect, the suspect pulled a gun and shot the officer in the chest. The other officer responded by pulling a gun and took the suspect down with 2 or 3 shots. The officer that was shot was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital for emergency surgery, but sadly the officer didn't survive.
This hits home for me because I knew the officer that was killed. He and I graduated from high school together and had many classes together. He was always a cool guy. Never had issues with him. His name was Officer Justin Leo and was only 31 years old and had been a police officer in our town for 5 years.
