Just as Eddie was about to dial Richie's number, the phone rang. Eddie jumped and answered it hesitantly.

"Hey Eddie, it's Stan. All of us are meeting at the quarry, see you soon."

Before Eddie could even respond the phone clicked. He shook his head and got up, buckling his fanny pack and running his hands through his messy hair.

"Where are you going?" His mom appeared in the doorway and Eddie jumped. He'd forgotten she was there.

"Out to the quarry, just with Stan. He just called, you can check..."

She nodded slowly, giving him a quizzical look. Before she could bring up him having to break up with Richie again, Eddie took off out the door.

"Bye mommy!" He called and ran out to his bike. He pedaled fast to the quarry, his mind racing as fast as his tires. He had to break up with Richie, he had to break up with the guy he was in love with while a demonic monster ran around their town. Richie didn't deserve to be hurt like that.

When he got to the quarry, Eddie saw Stan and Bill sitting close together on the edge. He didn't know what was going on between them, they claimed it was nothing. Then, Eddie saw him. Richie had gotten up and was walking over to him. The sun shone down and reflected off his dark curls, but somehow his smile was still the brightest thing Eddie had seen. He had small but visible dimples and his eyes creased around the sides. And Eddie knew he couldn't do it.

He stopped his bike, took long look at Richie, then turned it around. He took off back in the opposite direction. Richie deserved to be happy, not have his heart broken by Eddie.

But Richie wouldn't let that happen. He ran after Eddie, calling his name until eventually he caught up to the smaller
boy's bike.

"Eddie! Eds stop, what's going on?"

Eddie didn't say anything. He stopped his bike, but didn't face Richie.

"Eddie look at me." Richie moved in front of his bike. Eddie still didn't look up.

"Eds..." his voice was softer now, "did I do something to you...?"

"We need to break up..." Eddie heard his own voice trembling.

Richie began to say something but Eddie began peddling again as hot tears burned at his eyes. They rolled down his cheeks as he rode away from the love of his life.

Richie stood there; shocked. He stared after Eddie and began shaking, tears pouring down his face. He felt someone's arms wrap around him but he couldn't be bothered to see who. He didn't even care if it was Henry Bowers. He just wanted Eddie back.
