listen to the song above while reading (it makes it like 10x more sad but also better)
Eddie was numb. His mind felt like it was racing but there was only one thought on it. Richie. He didn't remember anything that had happened after he heard those three words.
"Eddie... Richie's missing..."
Stan's voice still rung in his ears. Eddie dropped the phone and heard the dial tone as it hung from the cord, dangling off the table.
If Eddie had known that their last conversation would've been their last... if Eddie had known that the last time they kissed would've been their last... even their last hug. Eddie would've held on for so much longer. Memories of their time together clouded Eddie's thoughts, tears falling down his face.
The day they met.
The day Richie bought him a bike because his mom wouldn't.
The day Richie told him he liked him.
Their first real 'date' when Richie took
him to the quarry for a picnic.Their first kiss.
Sobs took over his body for the third time that day. Eddie's life had crumbled down in less than 24 hours, and it was all his fault. There was a knock at the door and Eddie stood slowly, remembering the night of their first date.
Richie knocked on the door, holding a plastic bag of snacks he'd lifted from
his house. He didn't have a real picnic basket or real picnic food, but he knew Eddie wouldn't mind. Eddie came to the door and Richie held up the bag, grinning."Your chariot awaits." He said in a British accent. Eddie looked past him and saw only his bike, laughing.
"You're such a dork Trashmouth."
"You're correct, but you already agreed to go on a date with me so you're stuck." Richie winked and pulled Eddie outside. Eddie felt the blush creeping up his neck and covering his cheeks, and he knew Richie saw it too.
Richie tied the bag to the handle bars and got on, motioning for Eddie to get on behind him. Eddie got on the bike and wrapped his arms around the curly haired boy, both of them grinning as Richie peddled off.
But when Eddie opened the door, Richie wasn't there. Stan and the rest of the Losers were, all giving him the same sympathetic look.
"Don't..." Eddie wiped the stray tears from his cheeks, "I don't need the sympathy... I know you're all scared too."
"We wanted to talk to you about how to handle it... his parents most likely won't wanna pay for a funeral service-" Ben spoke up but Eddie stopped him.
"Funeral service? He isn't dead!"
"Eddie-"
"No! What's your problem?! Bill's so hellbent on finding Georgie and none of you tell him Georgie's dead! So either you're lying to Bill or you're lying to me!" Eddie felt his voice rising and he tried to calm down, but he couldn't. "Richie's still alive. I can feel it- and i'm not going to let our relationship end like this. I'm going to find him." Eddie spoke confidently, but he was shaking.
He walked outside, past the losers, grabbing his bike and trying to push away the thought of when Richie gave it to him.
"Richie we have to get to school. What are you doing?" A young Eddie asked his friend as he led them in the opposite direction of the school, towards his house.
"Cmon Eds, I just want to show you your Christmas present."
"Richie it's June. And don't call me that."
Richie just laughed and pulled Eddie to his backyard. Eddie looked around and his eyes landed on a bike. It was a simple black bike, with silver handlebars and navy blue grips. Eddie put it together and gasped, running over.
"Do you like it?" Richie grinned, but Eddie just ran back to him and hugged him. Richie laughed and hugged back.
"Richie it's so awesome!"
"Well then what are we doing in here? Go give it a test run!" Eddie grinned and obliged, grabbing it and wheeling it to the street, a smiling Richie behind him.
This time however, when Eddie picked up that same bike, he wasn't smiling. And Richie wasn't with him. He faced the rest of the Losers before getting on, peddling straight toward the Neibolt house.
sorry this was kind of all over the place
