The box was impressive. Beautiful. Solid gold still glinting in the dim light of the over-head light bulb, even after thousands of years. A scarab beetle sat regally on the lid, and the sides were graced with Ancient Egyptian symbols. Winn stared for a full three minutes before J'onn called out a sharp "Agent Schott!" to snap him out of his awe-induced daze.
"I need you to decode the inscriptions so we know what this thing's use is." J'onn glanced at the artifact with distaste. Winn answered with a "Sir, yes Sir!" before grabbing a brush and studying the hieroglyphics closer. He'd learned how to read them years ago, as they weren't that different from computer codes and he thought it would be a conversation starter. Well... at least it came in handy eventually. He felt a few more pairs of eyes watch him brush away dust and scribble down words, as Kara and Alex arrived.
About an hour later, he wiped sweat off his brow and stood up straight, announcing he was finished. "What does it say?" Alex tried to suppress her excitement by fixing on a serious expression, and tone to match. Winn took his piece of paper and cleared his throat. "It tells a warning tale. You better get comfy 'cause I'm about to tell the best campfire story you've ever heard" Kara clapped excitedly and J'onn rolled his eyes.
"So, there was a prince, heir to the throne if Egypt; and he was hopelessly in love with a guy. But the prince's father wanted his son to marry a beautiful young woman and take over the mantle of Pharoh.
So when the prince confessed his true love, his father forbade him from doing such a thing. The prince was furious, so he fled to his love's dwelling so they could run away together. But when he got there, his love was hanging limp from the arms of his father's guards, blood trickling from his slit throat--"
"Do we need to know the bloody details" Kara interrupted, scrunching up her nose. "Yes. Now let me continue" Winn waited but there were no further interruptions. "So the prince snapped. He grabbed his sword and murdered all his father's guards there and then. When his father entered, the prince thrust his sword into the Pharaoh's chest and watched him die without a shred of mercy. But the people of Egypt took revenge on the prince, tearing out his heart and placing a cursed gem stone into it. The grotesque gem-heart was placed in this box, because Egyptians love pointless curses. I don't know, maybe they intended to put it at the entrance of a pyramid as a booby trap. Anyway, his body was thrown to the vultures along with his lover."
"So, by now the heart has decayed, which means there's a cursed gem in that box" J'onn stated, his distaste deepening through his frown. Winn nodded. "Well let's get this thing in a secure volt. I don't trust Egyptian curses and I don't wanna risk it," Alex mirrored the Martian's expression. Winn agreed. Real or no, curses creeped him out.
"Wait, what was the prince's name?" Kara asked, curiously. Winn reread the scribbled notes and answered: "Se-anhur." He felt a chill run up his spine at the pronunciation of the name.
                       *~*~*~*~*
Winn softly sung 'I've Told You Now' under his breath, as he worked on a string of code. Agent Vasquez stopped working for a second to listen in, about to tell him to keep working, then deciding against it, happy with a little background music. Winn changed the lyrics to a content hum, and wiped away some sand from his eye-- wait sand?! Winn looked up, a puzzled expression settling on his face. More sand, just piled up on his desk. Then he heard a commotion.
Gun firing. Heat vision. Frustrated shouts. A fist hitting the wall. Winn spun his chair around, facing Supergirl, Alex, J'onn and a bunch of DEO agents trying to subdue a creature. An actual freaking mummy. Minus the bandages.
All the efforts of the heroes were futile, as everything just went through the creature. An agent, young and male, swung his gun toward the mummy, but his arm was caught. How the creature could solidify when he chose would have been fascinating if it wasn't completely terrifying. The mummy opened his mouth in a terrible roar and the moisture seemed to drain from the agent's body, leaving him a skeletal figure dangling limp from the mummy's hand. The creature itself gained more mass, the red flesh turning slightly more like skin. The tan skin of an Egyptian prince, accompanied by one deep, brown eye and a mouth.
The entire building was silent in shock. Winn stared, eyes wide and mouth hanging open. Then the freaking mummy went and looked at him. Straight in the eye. And started walking towards him.
The heroes started attacking again, but the bullets and blasts had little to no impact on him. He walked forward, his eye and socket never leaving Winn, as the tech genius scrambled behind his desk and walked backward. When the mummy was around fifteen feet away, Kara flew in front, placing her arms out in a protective manner. Winn took the opportunity and herded the IT agents back, away from the threat.
The creature snarled. Suddenly he disappeared into a swirling mini sand storm, appearing behind Kara and right slap bang in front of Winn, who was backed up against the wall. Winn froze, realising that he couldn't punch or kick or defend himself in any way. He gulped and awaited his fate.
The mummy reached out and trailed a bony finger along Winn's cheek, leaving a trail of fleshy red liquid. Then he spoke in the ancient Egyptian language, and repeated in English in a raspy whisper: "you will undergo the sacrifice. You are my chosen."

There we go! The name was made up but the other characters belong to DC comics and the CW. The idea was from The Mummy again all rights reserved. If you want to hear Winn actually singing that song I mentioned earlier, search up Jeremy Jorden I've Told You Now on YouTube. Thanks for reading
